Had Professor Hartzell for my capstone. She's an awesome lady and very respected Professor both in the Political Science dept. but at the school in general. She is very knowledgeable about all the courses she teaches and expects much of the same. You must come prepared and work hard for the grade you want.

The class is completely lecture based, but she does a tremendous job at keeping it interesting and not becoming monotonous. She really cares about her students and all of your papers are graded meticulously, which is either good or bad depending how well you wrote it lol. The notes from class are much more important than the textbook readings.

Professor Hartzell is a good professor who gives engaging lectures and is a nice person overall. However, her exams are not good measures of what was learned in lecture, and were far too difficult for an intro-level class.

I'm laughing at the people who didn't give Hartzell a good review. She's incredibly nice and is always willing to help. She's not my adviser but she's helped me figure things out and is so optimistic and helpful. She isn't a harsh grader - if you did the easy, short readings and showed up to class you'll pass, and with a good grade.

This professor was one of the most agitating and rude women i've met in my life. She hands out grades (bad ones) and cannot back them up. She obviously doesn't care about each student individually and she gives a shameful name to professors on campus. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! take it with someone else. YOU WILL NOT GET AN A

She seems like a nice person, but is very opinionated and if she doesn't agree with your perspective, then forget about arguing that in a paper and still getting a decent grade. Very unhelpful.

Prof. Hartzell is an extremely kind and intelligent woman. If you approach her, she will put forth lots of effort to help you with assignments. Her classes are lectures primarily, and she values participation. If no one participates, the class is plain boring. If you engage in the discussion, as with other classes, it is far more interesting.

One of the best professors I've had thus far. Extremely engaged in the topic and explains it with clarity. She is always available for questions and will give extensions on papers if you have a legitimate reason. Exams aren't terribly difficult, either. You'll love her!

I took her class the first semester of my freshman year never having studied anything even related to international relations before. I learned SO MUCH in her class and worked my butt off for the C that I earned. Having no prior knowledge whatsoever made the class difficult, but it was worth it. She is biased in her views, and a difficult grader

seems like a very nice person with a vast knowledge in her field. BUT, she sometimes seems to play favorites, and this becomes annoying when participation plays such a large role. Also plays favorites with grading as well.

Professor Hartzell has lots of interesting stuff to say. She is helpful, and probably the nicest professor I've ever had. Although her class was interesting, it was a lot of work. Tons of challenging reading articles, decent amount of writing. Good class, but if you take it be prepared to work really hard.

Lots and lots of reading for this class, and the midterm was really long, so be prepared to write. There was a lot of writing for the class in general, but there was only one "formal paper." Lectures were interesting and she leads discussion well.

seems like a really nice professor, but is completely unfair and biased. chooses favorites in the class and rewards them undeservingly. i was really interested in this class but realized it was a waste of time because it turned into an economics class and she continuously marked me down while giving others with lesser-quality work higher grades
