Dr. Shubra is a great teacher and a nice guy. I must say the work load for his 2 credit class is much like that of a 4 credit class. If you want to learn, take him.

He is tied for best teacher with Jim Wolfe in the IUP CompSci department. He cares and is great at what he does. What he teaches is completely practical and I still use it 10 years after graduating. I still have him as a reference on my resume.

This is a great teacher! Listen and learn and you'll be better for it. The peopl egiving him bad ratings are idiots that wanted a degree, but didn't want to work. This guy did the work in the real world and he has things that could benefit you, if you take the time to realize that he may (does!) know more than you.

I have had Dr. Shubra for several classes and all of them have been enjoyable and given me an opportunity to learn something. Having said that, there is definitely a little getting used to when it comes to his teaching style and overall demeanor. In general he is a nice guy and a good teacher, but some of his jokes are unnecessary and offensive.

OK, so back in 1989 when I had him for my first CSC class, I thought he was arrogant and full of himself. Now 20 years later (omg, I'm old)I realize that I was pretty wet behind the ears in that judgement. If I knew then what I know now...

Definitely, one of the best professors I have ever had. Gives you more than enough time to complete the assignments. Exams are hard. Go to class and Study and you should be ok.

I'm not sure what drugs this guys has you taking, but I absolutely hated this course. This professor thinks that paraphrasing his thoughts is a form of slacking off and or not paying attention (which I clearly was). And that is just the tip of this iceberg.

Such a great prof. He gives you all the time in the world and more to complete assignments, you just need to take the time to do them and not wait til the last minute. I would recommend this class to anyone. Class is mandatory, but if you take Dr. Shubra, you won't have a problem wanting to go to class. Help is always available except on golf days!

Tough, but brilliant guy. Won't make it easy for you if you're not willing to try. Doesn't put up with BS. Usually curves final grade. Expects you to attend all classes and if you don't, expects good reason. Has no patience for slackers.

Greatest professor ever! He's very helpful if you go to him and ask, but he also demands a great deal of work out of you. Also, his exams are hard, not just hard really, really hard. You have to take notes in class and read the book if you want to pass.

One of the few profs here that actually teach. If you want to learn, take him. Only time you're offended by anything he says is if you're an idiot. Good guy, and he gives you help when you need it.

Had this professor a few year back and thought of him as a jerk and very unhelpful. A man too full of himeself to understand what it is like to be a student.

His class required a lot of work, but I certainly learnt more in that class than most COSC classes. There is the matter of his strong opinions concerning various non-cosc topics...

There were a great number of (often seemingly mean-spirited) comments on non-computer-related subjects during lectures. These comments were VERY distracting.

The class is easy, but it does get boring. As long as you take notes and use the lab for assignments, you'll do ok. Dr. Shubra seems like an alright guy, just don't be late for class or get on his bad side.

Difficult class, but he'll help you as much as he can. Pay attention, take notes, read the book, ask questions. Utilize lab time -- he's the most helpful when in a hands-on environment. Sometimes spouts off on conservative ideology, but that's easy to ignore. Hope you're a Steelers fan, because he'll mock you to death if you aren't. :)

This guy just needs to flat out retire and get the hell out of IUP, nobody needs COBOL anymore and we don't care. His class sucks and if you don't do things the way he likes them, he'll make it a point to make sure the entire class knows.

Shubra is the man! He's seriously an awesome guy, great sense of humor that makes the course work much more bearable. I wound up dropping the class because COBOL is... eh, heh. Highly recommend taking him though if you have a chance. If anyone can make COBOL fun, it's Dr. Shubra.

Shubra is a very difficult professor, but he is also probably the best. If you're willing to learn and want to be better off in the job world, take Shubra. If you just want to take a class that you can blow off all the time and still pass, Shubra isn't the teacher for you.
