This class was very easy. I literally only showed up to the exams and got an A. All you have to do is read the book. Everything you need is there, very plainly written. If you read the book, you'll get an A. Open book and open note tests were nice too.

He is a very bad professor. Is often late to class and is always unprepared. He just reads off the slides word for word and it is obvious he would rather be somewhere else. You may as well never go to class because he will just confuse you. You are better of just reading the book. On a good note his tests are very easy.

He's a poor teacher. He goes through the motions reading off slides. Does not introduce topics or paint a larger picture of why we're learning the concepts. He doesn't know how to emphasize a concept in practical terms he assumes you know it. The material ends up being more engaging to read from the book.

Welty is nice, but I got almost nothing out of attending class. lectures were confusing and not explained well. i had to read the book, & often meet in the tutor CS lab. not surprising that every student in the tutor CS lab was his. although he is a beyond fair grader. so don't be scared to take the class.

Definitely a good teacher. He listens to students and adjusts to concerns. While it is true that the lectures are pretty much straight out of the book, he covers the material at a reasonable pace and has no problem stopping to explain something. The book that he chose for the course was awesome.

Very laid back, funny guy. Easy to get along with. Not that great of a teacher for me though. Hard to understand, summarizes book in lecture, often late. He's smart, really knows his stuff, but for me, I could've read the book, saved time, and still learned everything I know...without the TA's (Alex and Alex), I would've failed...

Welty is a very laid-back, friendly teacher who has a lot of experience and enjoys his field. I've taken three classes with him, and I feel a learned a ton from all of them. Definitely take from him when you can. He's one of the few in the computer science department who is truly amiable and clear.

I took many classes with Welty. To me, he was a poor teacher, tends to just summarize the text and gloss over all of the details. Easy classes, though - he is laid back and entertaining, he is not one to go around the class and put people on the spot.

Funny guy. He never remembers your name! 250 is pretty dull, but Welty keeps it ok. Exams are a breeze. Classes are worth going to for clarifaction, but its not the end of the world if you miss them either.

Sometimes stumbles, occasionally hard to cut to the chase, but I am persuaded he KNOWS HIS STUFF. His anecdotes always get a chuckle out of the class. He is not condescending but he doesn't let slackers walk all over him. Please don't retire Prof. Welty!

He is one of a kind, and even if he fumbles while trying to get you every bit of knowledge he has on the subject, he IS prepared, and knows what he is doing. Some think he isn't prepared, but I'd argue that they aren't. Excellent!

Sometimes does that make senses. It was easy to zone out during class, so bring something to do to keep urself awake. Overall a great teacher, except for forgetting things and not being perpared. Class not always worth wild to attend.
