I would elect Prof. Ryan to be President of the United States for life. He is the greatest thinker I have ever encountered in my life. Taking a course from him truly changed the way I think about the world and the course of my life. If you have the opportunity to take a class from him, do it!!

One of my favorite teachers! He teaches philosophy at its most basic, the study of human nature. Everything he teaches is very applicable. His classes are not for the philosophy intellectual, but for the down-to-earth individual.

Ryan is no star in the department--be very cautious about what you take from him if you actually want to learn the material.

His teaching style just does not work for me. There is no textual engagement or structured lecture/discussion, and I question the selection of some of the films. I think he had some good ideas, but he never really showed the depth of them. Nice teacher, but not enough rigor and depth.
