He is a great professor that I would definitely take again. There is a decent amount of reading and there are a few papers throughout the class that will determine your grade. If you put in the work you will get a good grade. He is fair and always willing to help. Great professor all around.

Comes off as an approachable and caring historian, but after a few months his incredibly vague criticisms of your work became overbearing, and he was distant and continually vague when asked for clarity. In the end, if you adhere to his half-hearted critiques, he will still slam you at the end with your grade. Do NOT take your capstone with him!

Do not underestimate this class! I went into this thinking it would just be an easy A, but I was greatly mistaken. There are 4 "exams" which are just papers, but each topic was very complex and took a lot of work to extensively convey the topic. In depth analysis of documents and videos are the best way to get an A on the papers. Very tough grader

Really great guy but this class was tough for a 100 level class. The essays we had to do seemed to be more for 200 or 300 level classes. He is a really tough grader and we had 5 books that we used throughout the semester. He makes himself available in person and via email.

Although attendance is mandatory, if you don't show up, you miss a lot of material. He is helpful and thought provoking, he gets you to see multiple viewpoints, gives you evidence and lets you pick a side based on texts in class. There are three really long papers, but as long as you pay attention to grammar and use evidence to back your claim...A+

Class discussion is a discussion of the reading for the week. There are weekly assignments to review the reading (journals), do them!! They are super helpful when writing the three exams that are 5-10 pages long. They are take home but must engage text. Overall Professor Clark is really understanding and very knowledgeable. DO THE WORK, YOU'LL PASS

Favorite professor and class I've had at OU! Professor Clark is incredibly kind, thorough, and knowledgeable. There is quite a lot of reading and writing so if you aren't willing to do the work, don't take the class, but if you are, this class was a great experience for a history major or anyone interested in the time period. Definitely recommend.

Prior to taking this class, I had little interest in the subject (the Cold War). He is a very energetic teacher, and is very willing to help you with any concerns. I would recommend him to anyone!

By far the best professor I have had at OU. He is always willing to help if needed. He is a natural born teacher, always trying to get you to think critically. Very encouraging, understanding and motivating. He is pretty laid back and really easy to talk to. My writing has improved greatly since taking classes with him.

This professor was approachable and helpful. I often sought from him advice for other history classes (mainly historical writing). The ability to write well was an absolute must because he graded heavily on written essays. I recommend diligently taking notes as you read course material for later use in writing essays. Downside: his rapid speech.

Dan Clark is by far one of the best professors at OU. His class is not easy- he requires a lot of reading and writing and it can be a bit overwhelming at times. That being said, he was always willing to help if we had any questions. His class does require some effort, but you will come out learning a great deal. Also, he's pretty nice to look at!

I had the professor for four classes. I earned a 4.0 in each, but I had to work to get it. You will know how to right a good paper by the time you finish his Capstone class. He is a great guy and a very helpful professor. He always had time for his students.

Amazing professor; he doesn't "teach" his students by expecting them to blindly accept lectures, but instead drives his students to think for themselves and analyze history. Attendance is mandatory but he is very understanding about absences. Weekly journals on readings and 3 papers total.

If Clark's class is 'hard' than I don't know what these people are doing at a University. He's a wonderful professor. Extremely understanding and helpful. Learned to look at a familiar time period from all-new angles. Dr. Clark was a standout from my time at OU. Lots of writing, but know yer stuff and you will do fine. I got a 3.9 from him.

History major, but wasn't that interested in this subject. It's still not my favorite, but I'm much more interested now. Clark is very kind, very smart, and so helpful and easy to approach. You must read, but most of it is pretty interesting. 3 papers, and he will help if you need it. Pretty understanding about absences. Even had a field trip.

While im not the biggest fan of discussion-based classes, I will say that if you are a history major and you know how to write, Clark's classes are pretty solid. As others noted, he's also very accessible and helpful. Again, just make sure you are a strong writer or else you will encounter problems.
