Comment:

I was taking this class to graduate as a history major. I can tell you that she is an amazing teacher that is willing to help students with papers. I will warn she does give out papers but she gives outlines on how to write the papers and how she wants them wrote which helped me a lot.

Comment:

Dr. Gordon's personality can be a bit hard to handle but you can learn a lot from her if you actually participate in the readings. It's a discussion-based class so you should read the given assignments in order to do well on her papers. You only have to do 4 two-paged papers (she's very strict on them being no longer than 2 pgs.) and a final paper.

Honestly, this class bored the hell out of me. You can skip the whole semester and only go to class for when she hands you the assignment instructions and turn in the paper. Four 2 pages essays, and 10-12 pages final essay. Her lectures are uninspiring. If you can read and write like a college student, this class should be fine for you.

great professor, easy A. She really knows her stuff. Easy grader, just give what is asked and you will get an A. She basically gives the answers to the essays

Comes across a little strong but as the semester continues she lightens up. The best way for me to describe the class is to compare it to a book club, you read a couple of chapters and give your personal comments questions and/or concerns. I wouldn't say the class is easy but it's not hard. Just be prepared to write.

To be honest and straightforward, run. The lack of tests are appealing, but the 4 essays assigned are so difficult you'll end up wishing there was a test. At one point the amount of disrespect showed by her caused an entire class to come together. Upside, made lots of close friends. People come together when you hate your teacher so much.

If you want to slack off, don't take this class. If you really want to learn, are willing to do the readings and come to class prepared to participate, and don't mind being challenged academically, Dr. Gordon is absolutely amazing. The books are interesting and useful in other contexts, and she does a great job contextualizing things in class.

when a teacher fails to inspire students, that teacher has failed. Dr. Gordon is tough but that is not the problem with her class. My grade is not horrific although it could be much better. The fact of the matter is that she has taken away my love for history. She is constantly humiliating her students and gives no feedback on your essays.

This is the worst teacher that I have taken at UCF. She assigns 4 essays and only allows you to write either 1 page or 2 pages depending on the essay; then she grades them as though they should be full and detailed. Furthermore, she humiliates students that try to participate and is rude when you asked questions. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS

This class is pretty difficult. You use both textbooks listed (you have discussions on each with one on Tuesday and one on Thursday) and you have 4 essays. We only had 1 pop quiz and she ends up dropping your lowest grade anyways. Make sure to use correct terminology when writing because you can and will get a lot of points off for it. Good luck!

I would never recommend this teacher to any student. The four essays are impossible to receive a decent grade on, she is is appalled by opposing viewpoints and will tell you that your opinion is invalid, and you must keep up with the readings because she will give you a random pop quiz during any class period worth 50 points.

This teacher is one of the best teachers I've ever taken.she is very clear on what she wants and also gives very good,interesting info that you can use in the papers.She is very linient in the grading.She gives about 3-4 short writing assignments of 2 pages each and then gives a 6-8 pages final paper.Reading the books is a must. she a cool teacher.

I don't care what people say about this professor. She can be rude at the beginning of class, but stick to it and you will be rewarded greatly. Her grading is the easiest I have seen, and she will teach you all the tools to perform good on the class. Don't listen to what the other people have said, they are just people that want it very easy.

This class is just one big book club. follow up on literature do essays and your guaranteed to pass. All the ppl complaining that she's mean etc grow a backbone . overall easy class didnot enjoy itbc it was just one big disc no real structure to the class won't take again but do not regret taking it.

She is knowledgeable but she has a big chip on her shoulder about race. Tells white students not to take her comments personally but still goes out of her way to make white students uncomfortable. And she is intolerant of differing opinions. If you don't echo her views in discussions and papers she will dock your grade.
