Comment:

Every review that says you need to sit up front is spot on. If you do not sit in the front row you will not be able to hear this guy. I thought he was about average. I don't think he is as bad as other people have mentioned. Do your homework, study for the quizzes, study for the tests using your quizzes and you'll be fine. There were no surprises.

Comment:

I would agree that "amazing lectures" stems from the fact that he is clear, concise, and methodical. However, I feel I've learned more from Dr. Mathew about statistics than I ever knew was possible.

Comment:

Dr. Mathew is an excellent instructor, gives straightforward homeworks and tests. He started out quiet and stern in MTH 540, but by MTH 543 he was very friendly, helpful, and caring. He invests a lot in his students, and he puts great effort into their success and knowledge. He is my favorite mathstats teacher at MSU.

Comment:

Gives "amazing lectures" because he is very methodical, gives clear definitions, clear proofs. He moves quickly and lectures the whole hour. Does not do many homework problems, but he gives good instruction in class. I did not need to seek help outside of class. Tests cover in-class material, nothing unexpected. Really cares if you do. EXCELLENT.

Horrible teacher, it's fairly easy class if you're used to only reading the book because that's all he does. He claims to be helpful but rarely is, and almost gets upset when asked simple questions. (As if he's defending the fact that he knows nothing.) You can never understand him, even if you get used to it. He doesn't clearly state the homework.

Dr. Mathew is very helpful if you go to his office and ask questions. Does a lot of examples on the board. If you are paying attention and making an effort you should do well!

He does have an accent that takes some getting used to, but regular attendance helps. He is smart, but not great at explaining material. He seems annoyed when questions are asked. Little homework and fairly decent tests. Definately have to show work. Wouldn't go out of my way to have him again, but I wouldn't jump ship to avoid him, either.

WEll like everyone else, I think he is very hard to understand. His homework is SO easy, but I don't always get a good grade on it. I am getting tired of showing him the grading mistakes he has made. He is smart guy, maybe not the best teacher.

Very difficult to understand for the first week or so, but you will get use to the accent quickly. Minimal homework and test are straightforward, but more or less on your own in this class. Can?t ever find him and if you do questions are never clearly answered. Subject matter is difficult, but memorize his notes and you will do fine on the tests.

This is obviously not an easy class, however, Dr. Mathew's does the best he can to make you understand. He has a somewhat strong accent, but once you get used to it, you will understand the majority of what he says. He really wants all of his students to do well in his class, so will help you if you need it. Work hard and you will do okay.

Foreign accent is too heavy. I couldn’t understand what he was saying at all. It would be better to buy the book and teach yourself instead of going to class for an hours worth of miscommunication.

It's not a simple subject, and he doesn't have the temperament required to teach a hard one. EXTREMELY hard to understand. If you have to take him, get a front row seat.
