Honestly not sure what all the complaints are about. If you went to class, took the notes, and did the homework, he'd answer your questions till the sun came up. Could re-take tests up to 5 times. You really had to work to fail this course.

I have taken this course numerous times and passed. For some odd reason I'm taking it again. Anywho, Herb is a pretty good teacher. However, he blows through all the work. And it's obvious if a student doesn't get it, he explains i once and leaves it. Overall, he seems kind of strange. Always ..."kooky"

Super difficult, but an incredible teacher. He doesn't set you up for failure, but definitely makes it so you have to try to succeed. Im only posting because of all these posts slamming Lyon. He is the most helpful of all the teachers i had.

Any other occupation would be suitable for Herb Lyon. Great mathematician, terrible teacher. Instead of teaching the material, students watch him do the material. Tests were irrelevant to material covered in class, and the only variable being tested was the student-not the student's work. With this lack of ethics his teaching skills are limited.

He speeds through so many things you can't understand it. All the homework is on the internet so when you have questions on the hw there isn't anyone to ask. And you have to get each question right in order to move on. But how are you supposed to do that if you can't get help? There is so much homework too and it's very time consuming.

Mr. Lyon is the worst teacher I've ever had. If you take him for this class don't plan on learning anything. He rushes through everything and spends no time explaining theories. He is very unorganized in his lessons (If you can even call them lessons), and you can't follow him during lectures AT ALL. He's energetic about Math, I'll give him that

Does not teach math well on an academic level. Projects are time consuming beyond reasonable means. Community college is about flexibility and prep for a 4 year school. Fellow students moved on completely unprepared. Stone cold with grading. I was given a C for the course with an avg above 80%. Go back to research Herb, your harmful.

He is very energetic and will answer questions. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with his classes, because he does not waste any time in class. He speeds right through things so if you need to go slower do not attempt his courses!!!

He spends too much time on powerpoints. This does not help me learn at all. Also, homework is on the internet and you do not learn the material as well this way so when it comes time for the test I don't really know what to do your grade is only based on test scores.

He is very passionate about math. Very helpful when needed, the only downfall is all of the homework is computer based as are the tests. i found him to be a good teacher.

He has a great attitude and is very helpful outside of class...very! But he does expect a lot out of his students - be prepared to actually spend over 2 hours a night, every night, doing homework, quizzes and group projects. And by the way, the group projects are stupid and almost impossible!!!

Herb really wants all of his students to do well, but does not make any appologies for people not doing well, which is not hard to do. He seriously expects students to spend 10 hours a week outside of class on Calculus, and with no assigned homework.

Awful. You will not know the material for your next class. He heavily uses a computer based program, and assigns additional projects which are very time consuming. Avoid if at all possible!
