He's so sweet. I took this class my first semester here and only picked it because I liked the title. You learn so much about chinese medicine and how it changes over time. He also compares it to American medicine. He always has a problem with technology and it's so cute to see him struggle. He give 2 essays and a final that's an essay

Professor Yip is a sweet and funny guy. He makes you want to attend class--and you'll learn a lot in the process. Two papers and one in-class essay are the only grades you'll receive, but just do the reading and take notes and you'll be fine. He definitely piqued my interest in Chinese history.

I have no idea how I ended up in Chinese history classes but Yip was such a great professor that I headed up taking 2 or 3 of his classes. For a subject I didn't know much about, he explained it so well and made it so interesting. Sweetest man as well, so glad I took his classes.

He is such a nice man. He's so passionate about Chinese History. The lectures can be boring but you learn alot of interesting things. There was no exams just essay and the final was just an essay you had to do in class which he gives 2 weeks before classes end. As long as you take notes and review them your sure to do good. He's not very tech saavy

Hes a nice guy, very knowledgable about the subject and excited to teach it. Works off three books. Pay attention to him moreso what you read. Two exams (one question essay in class) and one final (taken two weeks before schools over) Must do good on all or you will fail. Hes a tough grader, I thought i got As and got Cs on all exams.

Yip's class has a simple design, but when it comes to asking him for help it's the worst. Myself and other students have had our questions reflected back at us. I don't recommend his classes for procrastinators and people who don't like to come to class. Just expect to have never answered emails, other than that he's a very knowledgeable professor.

Dr. Yip possesses a sense of charm and humor that is often absent in academia; it's an underrated quality. He can seem aloof to students, but he really is a great person. The grades for the course are consolidated within 3 exams, so students do need to be prepared. Dr. Yip makes Chinese history accessible to the average layman--and that's not easy.

Shares his immense knowledge of Chinese history and culture with indefatigable vitality and engaging anecdotes. As a result: three-hour classes flew by! Both the history and resource books--far more interesting than most books of this type-- complemented Dr. Yip's presentations.

Professor Yip is a VERY hard grader. The only grades in this class were two papers and the final. Papers he says are a minimum 1000 word, but you'll only get an A if you write at least 2000 per paper. Only take his class if you are very good at writing his papers. If you are, his class is AWESOME. Interesting material and teacher.

Yip's teaching structure is quite simple. If you come to class, take notes, and have a general understanding of what is happening during the time period you are studying you will get an easy A or B. Most of his exams are take home; though the final is in class. All exam questions are discussed throughout the lectures and questions are welcomed.

His Chinese history classes are very interesting and contained a lot of knowledge. I took hist 480 and 477 and overall each class filled up one and a half of my writing pad. His third exam (final exam) are very straightforward, he told you a week in advance which question will be on the last exam and you had time to prepare for it. Good professor

easy A. however, biased. should be called Chinese history. Shouldn't be called east asin history. he misrepresents other contries. he can't even pronounce word that are not chinese. he shouldn't even try to mention other countries if he doesn't have correct knowledge in them.

Great professor, straightforward grading using tests with questions that come from careful notes in lectures. Sometimes can be hard to understand or difficult to see projector outlines from the back, so get a close seat. Reading the textbook can be dreadfully boring, but literature and pictures are important.

Professor Yip is a wonderful, caring teacher. I took HIST 387 and HIST 388 and received an A. I brought a laptop to class everyday and it helped ALOT. He knows his information very well and the slight accent actually enhances the material taught than hinders it. I learned a lot about the Chinese gov't and was able to understand Wild Swans by J.C.
