Your grade is composed of maps (3), exams (3), and a museum paper. Getting a B in the class is very easy, but getting an A in the class is a little harder. Just do all the maps, listen to the lectures, and read the readings. Always choose the essay over the multiple choice exam because the essay is slightly easier. Reading the text is important.

Great class, Dr Dodge doesnt put unnecessary pressures or stress on his students, and has a very dry yet hilarious sense of humor. 3 Exams, make sure to choose the essay and write A LOT, even if its jibberish. Odds are that if you write a lot, he'll simply flip through the pages and give you an A without reading your essay. He's Lazy but Easy

I genuinely tried to work with Dodge and enjoy this class. Cites John Dewey as an inspiration for his teaching style, but doesn't actually pose any challenging/thought-provoking questions. Prefers to rattle off names/dates/facts. Quiz questions are often vague or misleading. Feedback is useless. Might be mindblowing if you're still a teenager.

DO NOT TAKE MIDDLE EAST HISTORY WITH DODGE! His tests are extremely unclear and it is almost IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS! Over half of the class had to drop this class by the fourth week, and the readings were overwhelming. He does not have any structure as to what may be on the exams, and doesnt care. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get an A or B in this class.

This guy has me laughing sometimes. Love the way he teaches history. He even invited students to come to Paris with him. He has maps to color and lots of reading to do. His exams seem a lot harder than what's expected but just study and everything will be fine. I won't forget his lectures and his jokes. Love teachers like him.

Professor Dodge is a nice man, but not someone I'd want to take a history class from. My main problem with the class is that it was verrrrry unstructured and wasn't straightforward at all. If he feels like you're genuinely trying, he'll be willing to help you, but the grading criteria was very very unclear, as was what to study for tests.

He was overall a very funny professor yet he would often voice his opinion during a lecture, and not seem to care if it really offended anyone. Within the 6 weeks there, I didn't really learn much. Have to read the textbooks he assigned in order to know anything that's on the test. It was an ok class to take for summer session.

Reading, coloring, and listening to lectures. Class is simple but this guy is at least 70 so he is hard of hearing and boring to listen to. He does not censor what he says, nor does he care if it offends anyone. His grading scale is unknown and random. It seems like he gives you whatever grade he feels like.

I do not understand all of these bad ratings. He was a funny teacher and one of the best. He gave three test which were pretty easy He gives 6 maps and group discussions. One presentation.

TERRIBLE teacher! Opinionated, bitter, disrespectful and he has been known to grade your "subjective" assignments harshly if he does not like you. He makes very clear when he does not like you and why. If you want to learn about History of the Middle East, you will have to do so despite his confrontational & offensive behaviors and comments.

Dodge does not actually teach, he just reads word for word aloud directly from the outline from behind his desk in a monotone voice for 3 hours. Horrible and painstaking waste of my time!

Mark Dodge is the most humorous and most sarcastic professor at pcc. He "uses" the book for his lectures. If you skip class you're not screwed, because he gives a brief study guide, before the tests. His tests have the option for either answering 1 of 5 essay questions or 25 multiple choice questions. Very little to no homework. MUST TAKE!

This class is a field trip class. Don't take classes before and after this class because you go to LA and Santa Barbara and you have to either miss those classes or his class, but you can only miss two class and still get an ok grade, but its better if you go to all of them. You meet in class once a month and it is so boring, but the trips are fun.

Professor Dodge is a nice person, I'd meet him for coffee, but avoid his class. He doesn't want to be there anymore, and it shows. He seems checked out, apathetic, and unwilling to engage beyond a script he wrote for himself a long time ago. Not in control of his class and doesn't care. I got an A, but I would never study with him again.

This professor makes an interesting subject boring. But at least consumption of alcohol in his class makes the time go by quickly. You could probably smoke and Dodge wouldn't notice. His grades are a crapshoot - I wrote a kicka$$ paper and got a C on it, but another paper that was total crap got a B+. What the hell? YMMV with Dodge.

I took him for summer and he hated me for coming in late. So be on time! Other than that, Dodge is awesome. His quick lecture about racial stereotypes was eye-opening. Teachers that can inspire students to produce good in society should always be admired. Oh, and the video project was fun!

I took this class in Spring 2012 thanks to the "Spring Forward" sessions offered at PCC. Class itself is only a little bit difficult, and it is mainly because it took place during ten Saturdays with five hours per Saturday. -_- Anyways, I did not learn much in this class, but then again I'm not a history person. Way easier than my AP U.S. teacher

Most boring class. EVER. Class requires 3 books..that will bore you to death. Read them if you suffer from insomnia. Funny guy, but fails to engage all students in subject. Easy A, but super boring.

cool teacher, field trips every week and having a blast, but there's one thing that bothered me greatly. I did every assignment and put in lots of effort into them but received a C after attending every field trip. My friend who missed out on the last mandatory field trip and didn't do the final essay received a B, so this class is a wild card.
