I did not like her class. She grades very HARSH and grammar is EVERYTHING in that class. It is not a english class. I got a F on my essay due to writing my introduction wrong, but the rest of my essay was good. She did not even give me some credit for it. Her TA that I had didn't know what she was teaching about half of the time.

Prof Kessler is very passionate about Art History. It's refreshing compared to teachers who don't really care about their subjects. Just don't use cell phones in class, and you'll be on her good side.

Fabulous professor if you enjoy the subject. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take her courses. If you want a professor with a wealth of knowledge and passion about her subject, you won't regret taking this course. She may be intimidating, but if you are willing to do the work, she is more than willing to help you improve scholastically.

Selected readings that confirmed her feminist world view, and was rather intimidating, needlessly, when questions were posed during class. Would not recommend to anyone wanting an easy A, or a helpful teacher.

Don't take her class. She is selfish and rude. She is not willing to help and educate her students. She is a hard grader and has no problem with giving her students a bad grade. I have never had a teacher like her. She ignores her students like they are nothing.

This class is a lot of work, but really worth it. She actually was really helpful and offered to look our papers before we turned them in. Seeing how the essay was worth as much as the final, I thought this was about as helpful as she could be. The tests are also all essay format so as long as you do the reading, you'll for sure get a B.

Seeing that the majority of comments are from 100 classes, I think people are being unfair. Art History may not be everyone's cup of tea, and 18th century art really isn't mine, but she has a way of making it interesting enough that I remain engaged throughout the lecture and clear enough that I do well on the tests. But don't expect it to be easy!

I came into this class excited to continue learning about art history, but this professor ruined the subject for me. She's rude, condescending, and boring. She has no respect for us as students, and in return neither do we toward her. She lectures the whole class and I zone out EVERY class. I'd suggest avoiding her course if you can !

Be prepared to take notes in this class-it is very laborious. The moment class begins to the moment it ends, she never stops talking and it is all mostly important. The class is manageable without the book ( I get A's without reading it), but reading would definitely guarantee an A. In my opinion, not the best HA class, but I love it enough to cont

This professor has no interest in the academic development of her student. She fails to record grades, and claims to be generous with grades when actually she has assumed that the student has done more poorly than she actually has! Teaches theory and methodologies in a VERY narrow application that strictly adheres only to area of study.

Lectures are informative and entertaining- funny and knows her stuff. Difficult course- keep up with the reading or you'll regret it. Secondary articles worked great with lectures- really explores modern theoretical readings of 19th century art. Has dated hangup about split infinitives in essays. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK-IT WAS $130 AND I NEVER USED IT.

I totally disagree with the earlier comments. She goes above and beyond to help students, both with the class and their academic careers. She is also intelligent, interesting, and an all around fantastic prof.

i agree, she has no people skills at all and almost acts as if she is in competition with her upper-level students. She is very rude. She does have a great deal of knowledge but also forgets what she is doing in mid-sentence.

Truly amazing, she commonly says about too many things. The truly amazing thing about the class is that I don't fall asleep everyday or get some complex from how RUDE she is. Very much discouraged. She knows her stuff, but damn, get some people skills!
