She has a thick accent which is hard to understand, and doesn't do a great job of explaining the material. Hard to gauge what is on the tests, but if you study the handouts, you'll be okay.

Although very sweet, she was impossible to understand. And the more she attempted to clarify, the more confused I got. She changed the grading scale at the end of the semester. Tests are doable if you study the text and get a tutor. I recommend taking the Intro course with Dr. Lattery.

She is very knowledgeable and helpful. Exams are not that hard, if you’ll show up to class you will be fine. Every exam has extra credit. Grading scale is merciful. Accent is a minus can’t disagree with that, but I heard worse.

WORST PROF EVER!she told our class that we would be able 2drop our lowest exam score&then called us all liars when it was mentioned later in the semester;she changed the ENTIRE syllabus&grading structure three weeks before the end of the semester.i had to wait 1.5mos 2 get a tutor b/c she wouldnt approve of one&he found several errors on her slides

She seems really nice, but her accent is really difficult to get past. The tests are ok if you read the chapters...but the math is hard for me. I've never taken physics so this whole small angle formula thing is difficult for me. All in all, I hated this class but it wasn't because of the professor.

Comment:

Hard tests, used different terms in lecture than tests. Very nice lady, but difficult to understand a lot of the time. When we said we didn't understand, she just said it was easy. Lots of math on tests, with no calculators allowed. Class averages were in the 60's, but she said it wasn't hard and left it at that.

She's very helpful and nice. When I was broke and couldn't afford the lab manual, she not only offered me copies from hers, she MADE THEM HERSELF for me. Why can't more profs be this cool?

Probably the best Physics proff in the whole Dept. She actually cares and wants us to succeed in her class. If you don't do that well on your test she asks if she wasnt clear and asks if she can help you further. She explains things pretty well, even though her English is a litte rough sometimes.

Comment:

Not being a native English speaker, Prof. Kaltcheva can be hard to understand. However, if you have trouble understanding any of the material she is more than willing to help you outside of class, and in class she tries very hard to be clear. Take good notes and you'll be fine.

One of the nicest profs at UWO. Tries very hard to speak clear English, and is concerned that you understand her. Very intelligent and helpful. The best prof you can have for physics!!!

Well.. astronomy isn't the easiest subject, and it doesn't help when the professor has a thick Russian accent and stutters all the time. It really pissed me off at times..
