Comment:

One of the best and most inspiring teacher I have experienced at York U. I had problem reading through all the materials. I'm still trying to locate the booklist for his Queer film/Lit class, materials I found essential to study art & the literacy world. Cool/eccentric/unconventional, gives U the world without imposing-not for the narrow minded.

I actually thought he was a nice guy and that he was very passionate about the course material. However, having said that, he did not make any great connections in class and so it was 3 hours of endless banter. He was a little eccentric however, people should not be put off by that. Those who are probably have personality disorders.

He is so mean it's unbelievable. He embarassed me in class so that I had to change sections and then made my TA knock my grade down to a B from an A at the end of the term because he didn't like me. I hate him.

sometimes you get lucky: a prof who encourages you to think anything you want, allows for open discussion where you can say just about anything you want, and assigns papers and exams in which you can write almost anything you want. sometimes people get freaked at being asked to think + talk + write outside of the lines. how sad. lary is fantastic.

doesn't teach. just lets everyone talk and ramble on about unimportant things that have nothing to do with the course. he's lazy, and doesn't engage in conversation. when he does, he doesn't know what he's talking about. worst class ever.

A terrible prof. Knows the information, but never relays it in a way that is clear. Then when he tests you, the questions are out of the blue because he provides no concrete analysis of any topics or terms. Discussion is off-track and never organized. I'm sure he just improvised the entire course.

Nick Lary should not be teaching. Instead of learning more about homosexual desire, I only learn that Nick actually REINFORCES these stereotypes instead of refuting them. He is unclear, unprofessional and should absolutely NOT be teaching any course, much less a sensitive course like Queer Desire.

WORST Prof I've ever had in 4 years. Incredibly unprofessional and inconfidential. You spend all your time reading for classes to receive no insightful analysis or discussion in class (in other words, quantity over quality). He's not motivational or supportive. Don't waste your time or your money.

If this was my first class at York University, I would have switched schools right away. Nick Lary is a horrible teacher. He is very unprofessional. He does not stick to confidentiality. He is not articulate or direct with what he wants.

He wants his students to actually think about the material covered, and while some don't like that approach, I'm glad he pushed us. Very blunt in his approach, he's the only Prof I had who added swear words to a paper. He's like no other Prof (a good way)
