Comment:
Dr. Rose is a brilliant man, in the sense that he is very passionate and knowledgable about the subject matter. However, he is absent-minded and was rarely ever clear about what he talked about. Also, he made incredibly crude and inappropriate jokes during lectures. Expect anywhere between 30-80 pages per assignment for readings.

A seriously misunderstood professor. His expectations for a 200-level language course is as it should be, and if you don't feel comfortable translating, take a refresher course! If you go to his office hours he will most definitely show you respect and will subsequently grade with that in mind! He assigns FAR less translation than the other section

Really boring and doesn't know how to organize a powerpoint. The books teach you one hundred percent of the class material. Steer clear

Dr. Rose is a terrible professor. During class he speaks about whatever he wants, and then expects you to know every finite detail for the exam. He is extremely rude during office hours, and unless you are a decedent of Vergil himself, he won't like you.

I took this course for fun, as I am Greek, and I HATED this class! It ended up being my hardest class. Dr. Rose is smart but he is an EXTREMELY hard grader and he assigns readings EVERY NIGHT.I do NOT recommend this for anyone who is not a classics major. I had to drop it so an elective would not ruin my GPA. Save yourself the frustration.

He means well but all he does is write his thoughts out on a powerpoint and read them word for word. It makes it difficult to follow. even all of his handouts are like this. He's a nice guy it's just hard to follow his train of thought sometimes.

Dr. Rose does not teach. He expects you to do translations on your own and just quickly go over talk about them in class. He sometimes gets tenses wrong and the wrong adj with a noun when you go over them in class. Then his exams based heavily on the translations you didn't go over. He also makes uncomfortable sexual & rude remarks

Hands down Dr. Rose is the worst professor to teach this course & possibly ever. Mainly because he doesn't teach, he just rambles on about himself/his thoughts and student's expectations today. He makes the class very uncomfortable with his sexual comments and rude remarks that I would consider harassment level. Makes for a very difficult semester

Absolute worst professor. Harsh grader, doesn't actually take the effort to teach you material but expects you to go home and learn it on your own and then take a test or quiz over it the next day without any in-class review. Extremely rude and only likes to talk about his own personal interests in class.

I LOVE Professor Rose. He is chronically misunderstood, perceived to be difficult or unfair, but he really want you to learn something in his class, whether you like the subject matter or not. He has a lot of opinions and stories. Talk to him, he's interesting! You will have to put in the work, but if you do then you'll definitely learn something.

Dr. Rose is extremely difficult. He grades very harshly and expects most students to be able to translate as if they were a professor. If you show any hint of not knowing basics, he completely despises you. Also, he can be very rude without realizing it.

extremely deceptive--claims it is a 100 level course requiring no prior knowledge, definitely a 400 level course. DO NOT take unless this is your major. He is incomprehensible and rude. He is not lenient on grading at all. He'll only give good grades to students are taking his class for their major, not for people who are taking it for Miami Plan

Dr. Rose was definitely one of the easier teachers in the Classics department in terms of getting a good grade. He requires a large amount of reading but is very generous in grading. He is also brilliant in his subject area. I highly recommend him to anyone who has an interest in classics and probably not for anyone who doesn't.

I thought Rose was a GREAT prof! He is pretty reasonable in his homework requirements and puts forth the extra effort to help students. He rambles a lot... but usually his rambling is pretty entertaining. You have to do work, but as long as you're trying, you don't need to worry about your grade.

Teaches the 101 class at a 400 level, his lectures never made sense or followed any order whatsoever, but if you could follow along he did make some interesting comments. If you did happen to ask a question in class, his answer would have nothing to do with your question or he would ramble on for 10 minutes and never get to the point.
