He is completely useless, class is confusing, exams are a joke. Going to class is useless, reading the course package is far more helpful. He has no good will for his students and tries to screw them over as much as he can. Overall he is the most useless, confusing, boring, rude, conceited, bullying, dishonest prof. If you can, by all means avoid him. He makes the course SO dry and boring, and talks about the most random things ever that don't pertain to the course material whatsoever. He laughs at his own jokes, which aren't funny at all, and are completely irrelevant. His marking scheme is terrible. You can learn more by not going to his class.

Interesting class. Yes, the way to get a good grade is to regurgitate his views. However, I don't see this as being different from any other Arts course; welcome to UBC. Marking aside, I found his lectures entertaining--you probably won't if you're the overly PC type. I didn't always agree with him, yet appreciated his honesty.

He has never failed to frustrate and annoy me. Even when he teaches something I already know, he suddenly jumps to something irrelevant and makes it pointlessly confusing. He doesn't seem to care if you learn anything or not because he is arrogant and dislikes students. You have to accept everything he says even when it doesn't make any sense.

Easily the worst instructor I have ever had in my life. Lectures were disorganized, scattered, and often unintelligible. I thought this class would be interesting and that I would learn a lot, however it turned out to be a complete waste of time and a disappointment. I would definitely advise people to avoid taking a class taught by Serge.

His lectures don't explain anything in a comprehensible way and his exams are a crap shoot. The T.A. does most of his work for him and then he takes the credit himself. He doesn't really "teach" anything-just tells lame jokes, talks in stupid voices, repeats the same thing over and over, and expects everyone in the class to consider him a genius.

Worst prof ever. The guy made absolutely no sense. The only thing he accomplished all course was hurting my brain with his stupidity and arrogance. Tests were ridiculous, lectures were the same circular BS of things he made up himself, likes to talk to hear his own self righteous voice. Waste of money, time, brain power and your life. Avoid!

How can anybody take this guy seriously? No he can't teach, and yes he is VERY arrogant! We went on a field trip to the VAG and Serge started antagonizing our perfectly reasonable exhibition guide for no reason. He just can't resist an opportunity to get on his high horse and beat his chest and show off what a big man and a hero he thinks he is.

Prof makes no secret of the visceral loathing he has for his students--and his distaste for Canadians & Americans in general. He seriously needs anger management & sensitivity awareness training, as well as remedial instruction in basic pedagogy. Do not take his class because his behaviour is totally out of control AND HE DEFINITELY CANNOT TEACH!

This class is a waste of time and an unforgivable insult to anyone with a sincere interest in modern art. Every lecture was incoherent gibberish which had nothing to do with the exams or course syllabus; and the grading was entirely arbitrary. Guilbaut revels and exults in his arrogance; his abusiveness towards students is shameful and appalling!

Only take Serge Guilbaut's "class" if you have an extremely high tolerance level for childish temper tantrums and endless pigheaded arrogance. Because that is all this clown has to offer.
