Schaffer is the NICEST guy and will do whatever he can to help you and help you learn the material..HOWEVER, he is not the greatest lecturer he never really teaches the material and relies on you to learn from the textbook having said that he is BRILLIANT and just has a hard time dumbing down his PhD brain to student level.

As this was his first semester teaching diff-eq, the lectures tended to be a little patchy, but all in all a very good professor. Maintains very liberal office hours, and is always willing to meet with students for extra help.

I did not enjoy this class. The lecturers were useless. Sometimes he'd lecture on the material the homework was on, but most of the time he'd go off on some tangent about his own research and leave the class hanging. The labs were terrible too.

Schaffer rocks, period. He challenges you on the homework, on the tests, but further with the material of the class. This class taught me a very large amount of material and at times was difficult, although patience conquers all. If Schaffer's teaching it you can rest assured in taking it!

The lab is the worst idea ever, very hard and time consuming. The class is kinda fun/kinda pointless. The hw and tests are pretty easy. Excluding the lab, this class takes no studying or time at all.

I took this Professor for Math 454 (Linear Algebra). He was hilarious. He was definitely absent-minded as the other people have commented. His explanations were very clear and he gave very hard exams.
