Professor Bell is a fairly hard grader, but really does push you to be a better writer and a better student. We read way more books than any other freshman writing seminar, but his seminar was really relevant to current events, and class conversations were really enlightening and engaging. Bell is also readily available outside of class for help.

Professor Bell is one of the most interesting people I have talked to on campus. He knows the material backwards and forwards and the class content can be extremely interesting. Can be a tough grader on papers and tons of reading and videos assigned but you can get by without reading all of it. Would definitely recommend One of my favorite teachers

Prof Bell is an absolute legend. The dude knows his stuff and is intensely interesting. I took him for my freshman writing seminar and loved every minute of it - I wish I could take it again. He's sharp as a tack for his age, loves his students, loves English, and is personable to boot. He's a little tough on grades but it's doable. Take him now.

Professor Bell was my favorite and most helpful professor my first semester at Vandy. He is not an easy grader and demands a lot, but at the same time you will learn a lot. He is always willing to help with any paper and really cares about his students. Highly recommend. Also, his class can be extremely funny. Great Professor

Professor Bell is my favorite professor at Vandy. And he's the hardest professor I've had. He pushes you; you know you'll have to read a lot, write a lot, think a lot--but it's well worth it. You'll definitely learn in his class. He's also pretty hilarious.

Bell is not just a great professor; he's a mentor. He cares about and remembers his students, and his mind is as sharp as any in the department. He tries his hardest to be helpful and engaging and personal. Don't let yourself graduate without taking at least one of his classes.

Bell is great. He knows his stuff. If he thinks he's being unclear, he'll try to say something in a million different ways, and he is always helpful to meet with after class. He learns about students on a personal basis, and he remembers student long after class is over. He is what every professor should try to be like on campus.

It's been a while since I had Prof. Bell, but when I did, he changed my life. He taught me to think, to pay attention to myself, & to merge the two. To accept both my limitations & abilities, & to understand the possibilities of both. He SEES. He was my best intellectual companion, ever, and I miss him. (And he's totally, totally hot.)

I love Prof Bell! He is the most caring and understanding prof I have had; he takes the time to get to know each student. He is a very difficult grader but he is very flexible - there are no real due dates and you are able to write as many papers as you want. If you get a bad grade you can rewrite every paper until you get the grade that you want.

Oh, Vereen, whose name he shares with actor Ben Vereen... the class was interesting at first, but then the topic of film became a philosophical effigy, a discussion of symbols and themes that may or may not exist. And then the papers... it is a film class, but Professor Bell insists on grading as an English professor. Funny and dry, but not great.

Prof. Bell is a nice little old man who thinks about the books we read is very abstract terms. He's always relating something or other to Sarte and it gets hard to follow his train of thought in lecture. He's also a fairly hard grader, but if you read the novels and understand them, you'll do well

Bell was a really nice, funny, cute old man, but he can be cynical and also a really hard grader. he also had everyone asleep in lectures and he went off on phisophical tangents all the time.
