He is really excited to teach Canadian Literature which makes it very exciting to learn! He is a good marker if you have good ideas and write well. The only prof I have ever met that insisted on having class outside so that we can actually learn about Canadian Land on Canadian Land, which was incredibly fun. 10/10 would take again!

He's an okay prof. He marks pretty hard, especially in the in class essay. The materials we read were pretty boring and I would almost always want to fall asleep. He won't pick on you in class since he will keep talking if no one else has opinion.

A very attractive person in many senses:gentle, intelligent and sensitive. Sometimes I got less clear-cut guidance than I expected, but in the long run it had stimulated my independence in critical analysis of the texts. Also I would rather listen more to him than my classmates who overtook the floor, but evidently he wanted equality in class.

Prior to taking Canadian Literature, I had little to no interest in the subject. But Dr. Cariou's passion for our national discourse instilled in me a similar passion to the point that I have decided to make Canadian Literature my field of study for post graduate studies. He made coming to class an adventure and I found the hour was not near enough

Comment:
He doesn't have a clear teaching method. People's responses to his questions were usually irrelevant to his questions, so that was frustrating. He always say, "I think that's VERY interesting," which is pretty much the most boring and meaningless thing he could say. He's a good guy, course material was stimulating. Went to class for participation grade

a very nice guy, as a prof he tends to get a little distracted in class, but if you're struggling with an essay, he's very easy to approach, definitely very fair with grading.

Seems like a really nice guy, but he has problems forming the discussions he seems to want in his class. He would do better if he were a little more assertive. So speak up and give him a hand :)

Great prof. Extremely helpful and approachable. He may not seem that clear the first couple of weeks, but you just need to get used to his teaching style. Participate in class and visit him in his office. His essays and exams are extremely fair.
