Comment:
He doesn't teach programming at all. It's 99% for sure that he is not able to implement those concepts in CS313. As a result, he teaches the superficial knowledge of the topics and spends the most time on repeating easy "concepts". He would stop you rudely in class if you want to discuss details or the truth. That's how he pretends to be "smart".

Class materials are extremely hard and unorganized. The professor is very smart but bad at teaching. I would never take any class with him.

Comment:
I would highly recommend taking this class with another professor. Yes the material is hard and yes Andrzej is a highly intelligent professor, however, his teaching abilities are extremely poor. His lectures are disorganized, scrambled, awkward, and done with a blackboard and bad handwriting as opposed to a modern powerpoint format.

If you're a top student and don't let him intimidate you, you may like him. He's got some annoying quirks, but not too bad. You need to think critically and pay very close attention during lectures. Read the book before lecture if you're having trouble following it. His exams are difficult, but only for UO. HW is weirdly written sometimes.

He's a great professor to take if you're intellectually capable of keeping up with him. If you can see where he's going it's an amazing experience. If you want to work hard and learn a lot take him. He expects a lot from students.

Andrzej is a wonderful professor if you give him a chance. This class is very difficult no matter what instructor teaches it. Andrzej can come off as very intimidating because he is quick witted and fast to dismiss your incorrect answer to the many questions he will pose but I assure you that you will learn more in his lectures than any other class

What is hard... The professor or the subject? I almost avoided this class due to these ratings. Andrzej and this class are very hard. But if you put in the work you will learn a lot. It's difficult to do well in his class, but it is difficult to fail. He is very good at what he does.

While he's obviously very smart, he's probably the worst teacher I've ever had. He's extremely vague in class and posts HWs that are often so incorrect that they are not even close to completable until he FINALLY addresses them 3 days later. Very unhelpful in office hours and online. Avoid at all costs!

Comment:
He's extremely brilliant. Perhaps the most brilliant in the CIS department, and is very high on that list for UO as a whole. That said, I think he is a horrible teacher. Absolutely horrible. His assignments are vague, and the material he teaches has little to do with what he expects on assignments and tests. If you care about your GPA, avoid him.

Class was difficult, only passed because of the curve -- more people did worse than me than better. His lectures had a strange organization and structure. He knew what he was talking about, but a lot of the time we didn't. Eager to help in office hours and during class. Asking good questions is difficult, but you will do poorly if you don't try.

Unorganized lectures. He is a tough grader. He just accepts want he wants. I remember for the final exam he gave us an extra problem which was really hard. I spent a lot of time to solve it but he didn't grade it. When I asked for the reason he just said:"sorry I am busy".

Andrzej is brilliant, prolific, and well-known for his work in the field of graph theory, but is uninterested in anything outside his narrow field, and this includes teaching and advising (he is the department head). He shoots down questions, calling them "stupid". Exams and homework are ill-prepared. Plenty to learn, but you'll work for it.

Comment:
Really a terrible teacher. Presents a facade of welcoming questions, but his tone of voice while answering questions indicates his disgust with the stupidity of the question-asker. Completely unwilling to help during office hours. For such difficult subject matter, it would be nice if offered a little support. Avoid him at all costs.

Teaching style is very different. When he teaches he doesn't just give you the information. He requires you to think on your own. Which is good if your going to be a professor, but his classes require more effort. I'm glad I got to be a student in his class. The effort was worth the knowledge.

Andrzej is a funny guy, but I never once understood where his lectures were going. I've had Luks for half a term of 315 too, and although you'll probably get a better grade in Andrzej's class, you'll learn a lot more with Luks.
