She is the sweetest and I have learned so much from her. She is extremely helpful and makes learning fun! Even though we had class every morning at 8am I was always excited to come to French class because of Madame Sparfel.

Without a doubt, the best instructor I've ever had, at Cornell or elsewhere. She's kind, incredibly hard-working, returns all assignments promptly, is fair and equitably (i.e., don't try any BS with her, it won't work), has a good sense of humor--all this AND you learn French! GO TO CLASS and talk!

GREAT professor! She is very patient and really wants you to learn. Even though the homework is optional, do as much of it as you can to do well on tests. Participate in class- even if you don't know, TRY. As long as you want to learn, she will teach you. Format is a bit different than the intro classes, but its easy to get used to.

Extremely nice with a great sense of humor. The work load can be tough, but it's (sort of) optional and she's flexible. Make sure you participate in class and she'll love you. Tests can be a little difficult, but if you do the work you're good to go.

get ready to learn french; that's your best bet coming in to this class. mme. sparfel takes no prisoners, from her tough attendence policy to the daily work load. if you're looking for a weak language and a puss class, trot on down to the espanol dept. if you want to learn a beautiful, cultured, serious language, then bienvenue.

Although the tests a little tough, the rest of the class is pretty easy. If you do the work outside of class, then its no problem, but a little time consuming. Madame Sparfel is really nice, makes class fun if people participate. She has a really good sense of humor.

Very nice, very good teacher who genuinely cares about the progress of her students. However, the workload can be a bit overwhelming at times. She works like clockwork with tests every other week, essays, and around two hours of homework after each lecture--and there are three eack week!

Sparfel's class was an excellent forum to learn French. Most of the class is in a conversational format, and while having class and homework every day is a pain, the consistency did help me learn the language.
