I started to take his lab first, then I took his private lesson. There are some controversial ideas, but if you care the class and practice every week, you're gonna get an A for sure.

He is a great teacher if you really want to learn something especially if you began as a classical pianist as his material really stuffs into you how jazz chords work. However, I personally feel like his workload is a lot for a 1 credit lab and also he kind of makes you buy his own book, which I kind of don't like. Overall he is not a bad prof.

Comment:
Do yourself a favour and do not take classes with him. This man has a very twisted sense of fairness and does not understand his students and their needs, particularly if you have an impairment of some sort. His behaviour and attitude in this regard are unacceptable at Berklee. If you try to accomodate any needs get ready for a terrible grade too

Comment:
Is an amazing pianist, but doesn't do a very good job helping others reach his level unless they take that exact same route he did. Tries to be fair then won't care about performances or class outside his own. If you take him plan on not using the connections here to grow and prepare for the music industry as it is now. Teaches II- Vs and thats it.

If you are here for learning, you should take him. I will never agree to the opinion about bad comment about him. He really care about his student. If you are not interested in studying with challenging spirit, thanks for your tuition.

I took the second level of his piano lab without taking the first level and without being a piano principal. It took some effort, but it was worthwhile. We saw a lot of interesting stuff relating to polychords and their use in forming bebop solos. Pretty useful and cool stuff. If you're not into jazz or working hard, don't take this class. Nice guy

It is an awesome lab but you need to do the homework. If you just show up in class without homework you will probably fail. On the other hand he is a very easy grader. so if you spent at least few hours a week practicing for the class you will get an A easily.

I'm not a piano player and I think this lab should be mandatory for everyone because finally someone make you sit down and learn all these chords. I would say he is a pretty easy grader if you do your homework in time. What is not nice is that you need to buy his book... (50$ or so)
