Comment:
Don't take this class, unless you need it. BIOL480 w/McGuire was torturous, not worth the amount of time you'll waste studying for this class. Graduate w/ease, don't make your life harder by taking her class. Class does not illustrate regular workflow within a clinical lab at a hospital, so I don't get why she makes it so difficult.

PowerPoints have way too much information on them. The amount drives me insane b/c I don't know what to study and remember for the tests. Almost every slide has an essay of information, it's ludicrous. Pre-CLS people, prepare for an awful time. Hoping to get through this class.

2 weekly powerpoints that are full of info-much of which is repeated from past lectures or full of details we don't even need to know. Takes hours to take notes on one lecture because they are disorganized and you have to figure out what info is even worth writing down. Weekly assignments that are tricky but get unlimited attempts. Tests are fair.

Many would argue about this class, but a piece of advice dont listen to someone who doesnt study and expect A in this course. There are 3 exams and 2 morphology exams which are on the same day as exam 1 and 3, dont freak out!! Thats very doable. Her exams are exactly whats in her lecture notes. I got more than 95 in every single exam.

I listened to her first lecture and never listened again because she was very monotone. All study material can be found on PowerPoints. Study the slides in depth and don't wait to cram all the info in right before the exam. Exams are very fair and she also offers a good amount of extra credit throughout the semester. Learned so much in this class.

Took her for Clinical Hematology. Extremely boring teacher, her voice puts me to sleep. I just stopped listening to her lectures and reading them independently instead. Overall the class is do-able but I would not recommend anybody to take it unless you want to become a Hematologist. Go over the material and focus on her study questions and quizzes

Class was online. Her class seemed unpredictable, it seemed as though quizes (once a week) was material from the book while exams covered material from the slides. I did not know how to study for this class the whole semester. :( At the end I went to her office and she gave to clear pointers on what to study for the last exam (not cumulative).

McGuire is definitely knows her stuff and gives a study guide that really helps for the test. She is sort of tough but not too bad if you prep well. She's helpful in office hours but makes you feel like an idiot lol. Overall, nice lady and a caring prof.

Excellent professor, she takes pride in teaching. I learned a lot by attending her classes. She posts all her lectures on online videos, and offers plenty of extra credit, if you have the opportunity take her class.

Attendance not mandatory. Powerpoint presentations from every lecture are posted to Blackboard. Study guide is also posted. Read the chapters thoroughly and be able to answer the questions on the study guide. Extra credit quizzes are posted randomly on Masteringbiology.com.

worst class I have taken at state. Class is at 8 am and extremely boring. Not necessary to go but there are some ec quizzes in class. Tests are ridiculously hard and detailed, I studied for hours and still found it impossible to know everything. Luckily there is a lot of extra credit offered and I pulled off a B.

this class sucked. she expects too much detail for the amount of material she covers. the material isnt too difficult, but since it's combined with principle cell bio., its a really heavy load.

SHE IS THE HARDEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. Her slides are almost all words and the tests are very very very detailed. You can't get away with understanding the material.. you have to KNOW it in depth because the way she poses test questions and multiple choice answers is so tricky. Some questions are short answer and she wants specific answers.

She's a good professor and the material she taught was interesting. I've heard some horror stories about her though. So don't go talk to her outside her office hours. Do the study guide she gives out...she expects lots of detail in the midterm.
