Knows all theoretical stuff, clear about many theories, has memorized course material, doesn't need notes. say exactly what he wants to listen; no paraphrasing or alternate explanations, else he gets frustrated/irritated and can be rude.

Comment:

Very poor lecturer in a class that is tested mainly off of what is presented in lecture so often times a lose-lose situation. Very many errors in lecture slides which makes it difficult to understand and take notes. Tests are ridiculous even though they are open-book open-note, but never enough time for the amount of work required.

Comment:

Prof. Dasgupta is obviously very smart and is an expert in his field. I have the utmost respect to his knowledge and research. However, he is the worst in teaching. By far, the rudest professor I've ever seen. If you take a class from him, be prepared to potentially getting yelled at, being treated in a condescending way, and for tricky questions.

My time was spent in figuring out not being tricked by him, rather than learning course material. He doesn't have most pleasing manners, and he doesn't believe in office hour kinda thing. He is mathy. And that's all he likes.

Sourav's lectures are neat; completely avoid office hours. Make use of lecture hours as much as you could. Ask any question, and instructor is quick to give satisfactory answers in class. Inconvenient to access lectures after class because class notes are never posted online. Good math class at expense of letter grade.

Comment:

Downside are office hours, old-school exam and harsh grading. Upside is acute understanding of math, in-class teaching style and enjoyable lectures (until exam). Exam content is last ten min of previous lecture that he may just briefly mention. Not complaining, but he needs to be attentive about questions about exam.

Sourav's commsys reminds of a good old-school classical class - assignments, and exams are bad-ass, lectures of extremely good quality ( not provided on ICON while they should be.) His class can cause exhaust you after mid-semester break while he rushes through 'examinable' content. Ask questions in class, not in office hours.

Seems to go into class with a set plan to get from one subject to the next, and will push through whether you understand or not. Extremely difficult exmas and overloads with homework. Also doesn't give any examples in class related to homework.

Dasgupta was one of my favorite professors. I gave him a '1' for easiness, but honestly, I feel the more difficult they are the more you get out of the class. He can also smoke a cigarette faster than anyone I've ever seen.
