He is an all around awesome guy. He's very helpful but he doesn't interfere too much with what you are doing. Will give anyone a decent grade if he sees they are making an effort. Likes to joke around.

Very clear and easy to understand, if people are absent he catches them up on what they missed. more than willing to help students on class assignments when they ask, and occasionally when they dont. Humorous, obviously loves what he does, and talented. Gives good amounts of class time for assignments, wide range of subjects.

Best teacher I have had in college by far, he loves what he does and inspires his students. He communicates the deeper aspects of drawing and enlivens the classroom with his wit and sense of humor. Awesome awesome teacher...

I don't understand why people believe he favors anyone. I thought he was very fair. He even tried to help out students who rarely showed up, and he allowed extra time if it was needed. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot more about drawing. Show up, do the work, try to improve, and he'll help you become a better artist.

I had him for Foundation Drawing and Foundation Painting and I thought he was great. Yes, he favored me talented people, but whatever. I've had classes elsewhere at non-Universities and learned much more from him than I did at the other places.

Made a big deal about perspective but spent hardly any time on it. Could of made an extra effort teaching instead of sitting in the class with the rest of us and drawing. Save yourself aggravation, you wanna be an artist - then don't think a degree will grant you that status. Time and practice does. Find a professional and study under them.

Fits the stereotypes typical of art teachers. Can't find work as an artist so teach it instead. You pay hundreds for the studio space and thats all. You can take a class for half as much at the Art museum and get just as much out of it. Like physical fitness classes at Pitt, you pay for the space and not the lessons taught. Time/money wasted.

I disagree with the comment that said he is lame. I thought he was pretty cool. I enjoyed a lot of the assignments. He knew what instructions to give you to make you draw better. And he would stop and tell me if the head of the person I was drawing was too big, or something. But he does favor students who draw well.

Steve was my favorite professor in the department. He works best with students who are serious about art and who paint well. He would fit better in a school that had portfolio admissions--he used to teach at CMU, and I would have liked to have him there. He's tough--for example, I worked on a background painting all weekend, and he made me do it over--but he's fair, and he won't let up until you understand where he's coming from and you've made yourself the best painter you can be.

Great Guy. Allows freedom of interpretations, methods, even time on all projects. Provides helpful critiques and other advisement. Is sometimes unclear in terms of grading policy.

he lets you do what you want with the assignments. he is helpful when you ask him specifics. he guides you more than he gives you answers. he won't tell you what to do but lets you figure it out.

So you ask him a question, and he tells you to figure it out yourself. He doesn't want to be a teacher, and it shows. He lets you do what you want in the class for assignments which is good, but any instruction from him would cramp is style.
