Comment:
There were many readings assigned outside of class which were difficult because he never went over them and these readings were essentially what he was supposed to be teaching us, thus leaving us to teach ourselves the material. Overall I feel as if he didn't put in enough effort to teach us, and instead doing as little as possible.

Professor Sakuragi is an excellent teacher. His course is well organized, and his teaching methods are very creative. He does not accept irresponsible behavior from students like missing class meetings and failing to complete assignments, though. Why should the entire class slow down because of a few lazy students? I learned so much in this course!

Sakuragi Sensei is a great prof. He makes his class tough but you should be OK if you do the work. The best thing about him is his sense of humor, he will always keep you interested in class with his jokes and the discussions you'll have about differences in American and Japanese culture.

Sakuragi-sensei can be extremely intimidating, but that is his only downfall. He's genuinely interested in helping students learn. None of the work is difficult if you study. I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot; I'm on a first name basis with all my classmates if that says anything about the class atmosphere.

Grade is mainly based on dialogues and homework and quizzes. You can do poorly or don't even pass your exam and still have a chance of getting a good grade!

This is by far the best professor that I have had here. Before taking this class, I have been getting pretty depressed about the lazy students and lazy profs on this campus. He works hard and expects his students to do the same.

Comment:
The class is time consuming and lots of memorizing, quizes, etc. Sakuragi is a good and dedicated professor but usually he is just a jerk and likes to pick on people who are smaller than him (in Japanese language ability that is!) Can be hilarious at times, but his attitude gets old.

Sakuragi can easilly come off as an ass at first. His sense of humor is pretty dry, and he hates it when people hold up class. That being said, his classes are the only ones I consistently laugh out loud in. So long as you study, and know when to quit (some people simply can't manage Japanese well) this is an amazing professor and amazing language.

SUPER EASY class, especially if you've already taken a language. lot's of memorization, so if that's not your thing or if it's only your second language it might be tougher. nice guy too.

Sakuragi-sensei comes across as a bit of a jerk for your first few months with him, but he's a great prof and a very funny man. Does not like to be bothered outside of class, though, unless it's a comprehension problem.

A little hard to understand for some people, accent and sense of humor wise. Can come off as kind of ****ish for the first semester, but becomes a lot more likable in subsiquent years. Not great at getting new Japanese students interested in continuing.
