48% of the final depended on your knowledge of Four Part Harmony which the majority of the class was having problems with (he complained when most students didn't attempt it on the homework). Its not about student education its about respecting his authority. Attend everyday, seek outside tutoring and laugh at his jokes. Don't slack near the end.

Professor Hamlin is a tough instructor. This class will require a lot of studying and attendance is a must. I would not want to miss a day of this class. If you have a love for jazz then take the class. If not, I wouldn't recommend it.

Not an easy fine arts credit!! The class was a lot harder than anticipated. I would suggest prior musical knowledge. Vague lectures, note taking was useless, and the tests required perfect attendance and 5+ hours of studying to get low A's. Bring caffeine, read his note sheets and text, go to class, and A's are possible. Very Boring!

Early music appreciation was one of, if not the toughest class of my college career. This should be a blow off class, which it is with any instructor besides mark. absolutely impossible to get an A in this class. also extremely boring as well. tests are tough as hell to,

He is a very good Instructor the way he lectures really makes it stick and he is VERY knowledgeable However, he also doesn't care about the students. I recommend taking him Audit or CR/NCR. I Learned so much from him but,couldn't get an A if my life depended on it :( A trivial note but,his jokes are political or about his wife so be forewarned.

Great prof! You can tell he loves music and tries very hard to get you to hear things you might not have heard before... He also added the history of the times to help place the music and the feelings around it. He could teach black history!

He moves along at a comfortable pace. His tests aren't too hard if you study. Be warned though, HE PLAYS FAVORITES!! He requires one paper for this class and if he doesn't like you, you will not get above a 'B' on that paper no matter how good it is. No talking, texting, or tardiness or you will pay the price. (He didn't like the girl next to me.)

He's a nice guy with a dry sense of humor. His teaching style is straightforward: he repeats the same content at least twice per week and in multiple variations, which I think effectively clears up any misunderstandings - if one manages to maintain perfect attendance. He refers to the textbook often for examples in lectures, but never homework.

Bruce is a cool guy. He tries to be funny. All of his quizzes and tests are multiple choice with extra credit built in.He writes everything on the board for you to take notes but do read the book. Some questions are "trivia" about composers, so know where they are from and what their style is. Listen to the music assignments and you'll do just fine

The subject material isn't very interesting, but he keeps it bearable with humor. He goes over everything in clear detail, and his tests are simple. Only real warning is that you want to show up to class. I got lax, and I missed some very important material. Good guy, knows his material well, and I can highly recommend that others take his class.

DO NOT TAKE HIM!! he is extremely condescending and you can study but it doesnt help because he would talk more about his life than about the material then try to catch up, and very vague on what to study. and he assumes that everyone is an invalid, he's an ass.

Bruce is a great teacher, but his exams can be tough. His study guides cover everything, but you'll also end up memorizing a lot of names, dates, pieces of music, etc. that you never get tested on. Show up for class, take good notes, study for exams and you'll be cool. 90% of what he tests on is presented in the lecture, so pay attention! Nice guy!

He is an ok teacher. I wouldn?t take the class again and you do need prior music experience to really understand. I ended up with an A but it came down to the last test. I?m a 4.0 student and struggled with the materiel. However, I did learn a lot and if you really care about music take his class. Read the book and take good notes.
