This particular course included a service learning component. As a result, much of the course work was done outside of class. The major assignments are essays. As long as you understand the theories, the essays are not very difficult. Dr. Thomas provides grades and feedback pretty quickly. I would recommend taking Dr. Thomas for PHI 195.

don't take her courses online. non-communicative (was literally traveling abroad and barely responded to anything). all work is through an online system so she doesn't actually DO anything. she posted video lectures but they were outdated and confusing. tells you to essentially teach yourself if you ask questions. i had to withdraw from the class.

Dr. Thomas is the best!! She is so kind and will truly make you think differently about life. I have had her for several classes (philosophy major) and she has been wonderful in them all. She is always available outside of class and is very willing to help those who don't understand. Highly recommend!!!!!

GBK discussion is good, she will interject into discussion but it is up to you whether you respond or not. Participation is a must in group discussion and it is hard to pass without participating.

In a class mixed with philosophy majors (seniors) and newbies to the discipline, I (newbie) was still able to figure out what was going on. She is clear on her instruction, willing to help with anything, can explain difficult concepts very well, and has a good sense of humor. It was my second class with her and it was awesome.

I absolutely HATE philosophy now, but not because of the teacher (one of the DRIEST classes ever if you have no interest in it). Dr. Thomas is swell. She's extremely helpful, straightforward and fair. Class was an easy A if you took the test as opposed to writing the essays (you have an option). LOTS of busy work though, something due every class.

This is an awesome class. You will learn a lot, and have a lot of fun. Dr. Thomas is very good at analyzing the readings assigned, and makes sure that you understand it before the test. The tests are straight forward. I definitely suggest her as a teacher for any philosophy class! Good Luck!

A truly exceptional professor; she not only makes the books more interesting, she also has a conection with the students that I've only experienced with one other professor at MU. She's very willing to discuss papers with students, and is very easy to talk to. I'd recomend her not only for GBK classes, but for PHI classes as well. A word of warning: do the reading. She has students write questions about every reading, and those are graded.

Great books is not really my thing, but she is an excellent teacher. Very knowlegeable and passionate about what she teaches. She is not an easy grader for papers, but it is not impossible to get a good grade as long as you read and put in effort. Overall, I would recomment her.

Dr. Thomas is awesome! She really likes if you participate in class discussions and gets perturbed if you don't read. Only about 4 papers for the semester and you can rewrite them if you don't get the grade you want. If you make an effort, you will do great. You learn a lot, and the topics and readings are very interesting. I would take her again.

She is one of the best professors I've had. She's helpful and patient and really wants her students to enjoy the subjects that she teaches. She takes the time to make sure that everyone understands the material, but she doesn't let anyone slow the whole class down.

She is one of the nicest teachers at Mu. As long as you take part in class discussion and review your lecture notes you will do fine on her test. I most admit that it wasn't that she was easy, but you can actually learn a lot from her class. I would recommand everyone take her for phi 101.

Critical essay grader, though a very kind person. She will talk to you about any question you may have. Being a philosophy teacher, she is sometimes a little "out there", but if you get lost she will "find you" as she says. She has a real devotion to philosophy and you can tell very plainly that she loves her job.

Great prof! Doesn't expect you to get inside the heads of the crazed philosophers, just to attempt to understand.
