Beckham is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. It's clear he really enjoys his job and cares about his students, and he always gives great feedback on assignments. Show up on time, take notes, and complete the readings and you won't have a problem.

Would definitely recommend this class to anyone taking 207. He gives you an entire new perspective on teaching and what you want for your future as an educator. He also really takes the readings and breaks them down for you to fully understand. You also get a really good understanding for the founders who built education into what it is today.

You can tell he genuinely cares about his students. 11 quizzes throughout the semester but they aren't super difficult, he gives attendance points, overall most of the work is reading based but other than that you have two exams, field experience, and a paper. He's a great professor. You'll truly get what you give in his class.

His lectures are like going to church and hearing a really excellent sermon. He cares about educating, and he wants you to care too. If you want to know how important teaching is, take him. There is a lot of reading and writing for a 200 level course, but it all relates well to the course objectives. You can do it. I swear.

Went into teaching unsure, but he's very inspiring and I can't imagine majoring in anything else! Just skim the readings, take his notes, and you'll get an A. Easy grader! He's nice & caring and very honest about the field of education. I learned so much about how and why we teach at a personal, real level, instead of ed. theories, which i liked.

He's very passionate about his job, yet is honest about the teaching profession. If you read everything, attend every class, and listen to what he says, it's an easy A. He doesn't grade hard at all and makes it very clear what he expects on assignments, tests, quizzes, and essays. There's not much work other than field experience and reading.

Buy the required books; you'll need them. They make class easier. Dr. Beckham's lectures aren't lectures: they're discussions, and they are amazing. This was my favorite class my freshman year. He's a great guy! Take him for anything you can.

Dr. Beckham is perhaps one of the best professors at MSU. He will give you EVERY opportunity to succeed. You will be doing a LOT of reading in this class but he tries to soften the blow as much as possible. He expects class participation so don't think you are going get away with being shy. I would take him again in a heartbeat.

Taking EDF 207? Take Dr. Beckham. He's a great professor and made class extremely enjoyable. He doesn't talk over your head and interacts on a personal level. Makes the material relatable and is easy to contact outside of class. Would love to take him again in the future if able.

I absolutely loved Dr. Beckham and his class! He made lectures interesting and I learned a lot from him. Be ready to read the entire textbook, but when don't you do that in a regular college class anyway? There are only two exams (mid-term and final). I thoroughly enjoyed this class and I would absolutely take Dr. Beckham for any other class!

If you are wanting a more history based foundation of education (vs a philosophical one) this is the professor to take. He did an outstanding job with it and taught in a way that shed some light into American history as well. Study for the midterm and final, read the book, and do well on the philosophy and you will be fine.

I would never take this prof again. He has a supercilious attitude and gives horrific study guides (and the exams are so easy they are silly). I couldn't believe the first one after the study guide he gave. You never know what to expect from him, and he's boring as all get out.

He seems like a nice enough guy but DON'T take the telecourse. I don't know if it was him or just the fact that it's over the internet and you have to figure a lot out yourself, but it sucks oats. You're better off sitting through lectures.

Beckham speaks in a monotone and puts one to sleep sometimes but has a good nature and tries to help. His class is fairly easy but whatever book you have you will go through it all.
