very dry prof for such interesting material. he get s very side tracked and often rambles about irrelevant topics. he is a decently easy marker for essays. exams are much harder. He speaks very monotone. too bad because the material is so interesting but he makes it very difficult to pay attention. very hard to take notes, his slides are essays

go to class and you'll be fine. don't buy the tiny $50 textbook and good god don't let this man near a computer it's a travesty. I handed the paper in late & didn't meet the page requirement and still got an A somehow...

This course was very underwhelming. I feel like I could have done a better job teaching this course. A surprisingly tough marker, for a professor that has very unclear lectures and slides that are riddled with spelling errors. An uninspiring class. Avoid this professor.

Mr. Murphy is literally useless when it comes to computers. Sometimes it takes up to 15 minutes just to get the class started which is beyond frustrating. Don't try emailing him (he can't even open an attachment!) He does not make clear outlines for the assignments. He is very unorganized and all over the place. Don't buy the textbook!!

Murphy is extermely unorganized and at times very unclear. he is only touches the basics on each topic. exams are long, but bearable. Assignments can be unclear. overall the class is easy but only if you take on the material on your own, he is no help really. but still a good guy who gives good lectures. dont bother emailing him. lol

He never answers emails, even if you send multiple. He teaches the course as more of a law-based, psychology- based class than sociology and doesn't want to entertain ideas of patriarchy, sexism, misogyny, etc.

There is a correlation between coming to class and how well you learn the material; however attendence is not mandatory. He's one of the more entertaining lecturers. The second term is more interesting then the first. I liked the prof, but the class turns into an opinion fest very easily...

I am surprised by the other comments claiming conservative bias. I'm pretty left-wing and voiced my opinions often in Murphy's class...got a great mark and a great reference afterwards. Don't take the man so seriously. He's not as scary as he first seems. Just pay attention and work hard...not too much to ask.
