Comment:
Dr. Strain doesn't like to grade things so one or two papers might be your entire grade for the semester. If you don't like to read or aren't good at papers he is NOT the prof. for you.

Dr. Strain is amazing! I have him for an English course and I enjoy it very much. I am a big reader though so I do not mind all the reading material that might bother someone else. He is very funny and has a quirky sense of humor. Taking quizzes instead of exams is very cool in my opinion!

Very funny man; I loved his Latin class. It was difficult, but the way he teaches it is fair and involved. He is the best person to take languages with, and I would suspect most of his classes are the same -- incredible.

Strain is the one prof I would recommend any serious scholar at Ozarks take. He won't let students get by with a half-arsed job; he will let you know the uncensored truth, but the same applies if you have produced a quality work. I've had multiple classes with him and they were all amusing, worthwhile, and I came out with some of my best papers.

I took several of his courses. I really want to like this guy as he is very friendly and funny in class. However, he is also outright cruel on graded work. He has sent several people i have yalked to personal emails saying that he doubts their ability to graduate based on a first draft. Can be arrogant, as others mentioned.

Last fall (2010), I took Dr. Strain's "Chaucer" class. It was definitely a difficult class, but intriguing as well. Dr. Strain not only helped me gain a better understanding of Chaucer's work, but also taught me to speak Old English, which is very complex.

After taking Dr. Strain's Literary Theory class in the fall of 2010, I must say that my appreciation for literature and the various theories in it have been greatly hightened. Although the class is difficult at times, Dr. Strain is a very good professor and easy to approach.

What can I say about Dr. Strain? He is a one-of-a-kind guy who never fails to make me laugh. He is very knowledgeable about his subject matter and is a fun guy to be around. One of the major pros of his class is that he doesn't give tests! I definately recommend him.

AWFUL! Very arrogant individual. Talked down to students. If you're not a(n) history/english/arts person, good luck. Smart cultured guy, but rubs it in your face instead of using it as a teaching aide.
