She is very intimidating at first. Everyone in my class is scared to speak up for fear of saying something wrong . However, if you participate in class and work hard, she becomes very encouraging and helpful. Expect difficult grading on essays, and always make sure you know the book you're reading 100%. Overall, great, but challenging, teacher!

Strict in class, but very nice outside. Her accent is NOT fake; it was acquired, then somewhat lost during years spent in England. She focuses a lot on the material and is hard on those who do not do their work because she wishes them to try to do better.

The rumors are not completely true. Though she has very strong opinions, and will voice them, DDM is a very understanding individual who is willing to listen and offer help if you seek it out. She demands respect, but she will return it. Don't try to BS in her class. Put forth your best effort and she will push you to reach your full potential.

She knows what she is talking about and is clearly intelligent. There are times when the class drags, but I feel like I learned a lot despite the ease of the course. I do not feel like I was challenged, but I would recommend her as a professor; she is fiery, but that passion enhances her course.

Downs-Miers favors the girls over the guys most of the time. She gets off topic and rants on and on until you can't remember her original point, and no one in my class speaks up anymore for a fear of making her angry. She can be rude; she outright insults me and my classmates for no apparent reason. I literally have not learned anything from her.

Sometimes shes interesting but mostly she really rants on and on. She asks for opinions yet she really just wants you to agree with what she says. She does not give directions for papers. I mean literally no directions. She is quite a feminist- so if your male.. i really wouldnt take a class form her. and if your a first year.. better avoid her too

Dr. Deborah is a delight to work with--the best i have ever had and will never forget her. the only regrets i have are not working harder as she deserved-- would love to serve under her again hakespeare will never be the same she makes his sonets come alive. best wishes from yor redneck student!

She's the most polarizing teacher in the department. English majors love her, while those who are just fulfilling reqs tend to hate her or just find her strange. Which is a shame, as give her a chance and she's an incredible teacher. She's demanding in terms of writing, but show effort and she's fiercely loyal and helpful to her students.

TOO COOL!Wears great perfume!Opened up a whole new world for me in so many ways. Will never look at English lit in the same way--She made it all come alive. DDM is an absolutely wonderful professor who not only challenges her students to earn their grades, but also challenges them to think about everything all at once. My favorite part of this Freshman English course was learning how to write more clearly and effectively and watching the progress of my writing over a semester. Wonderful! :)

I hated her when I had her, but now that I am a junior I realize that she was probablly one of the best profs I have ever had. She pushes you beyond your limits and really prepares you for college writting. Besides, she is always entertaining with her clothes and her "accents" depending on the day and what she is talking about!

The papers are long with almost no direction. Don't dare ask for instruction. She is very close-minded. Very feminist. If you get on her good side though, you are golden! However, you come out with papers and knowledge that you can be proud of.

DDM comes off as a hyper-intellectual hard-ass, but if you actually go talk to her about a problem she can be incredibly sensitive. I did some of my best writing for her because she really PUSHED for high-quality. If you are an English major I recommend taking a class with her before you graduate... you'll be better for it in the long run!
