Comment:
I took Blatchford's course with some ten people and we didn't watch one film. Not only were there engaged, experience-based lectures from a local community leader, but the course afforded us a spot at a public speaking symposium and a field assignment with the Anchorage Press Club. He is a great empowering professor for a engaged self-starter!

You can tell this professor doesn't care about teaching and cares more about watching movies or leaving class early. Would not recommend taking a Blatchford class at UAA if you want to learn something and get something out of your Journalism degree.

I took Prof. Blatchford for JPC 313 and we didn't do much other than watch movies. Don't buy the textbook I didn't even use mine at all during his course. All you'll do is take notes of the movies and write a essay about it. Super easy and he's really sweet. I would take his classes again.

Edgar's style isn't like most, but if you show up and respond to his take home quizzes you will get an A just fine. People can hate on him, but in the same respect Edgar puts the learning in your hands. His lectures don't always seem subject related due to his stories, but they are.

He rambles about the same things. He likes to hear himself talk, so if you take him bring a laptop for facebook and such because you will get bored

Even though he can be politically slanted (he was Mayor of Seward), he is open-minded to the views of students. I learned more about Alaskan Native Corporations than I could from anywhere else. A humble guy with funny demeanor. Can be difficult to follow his objective, but still a joy to have as an instructor.

This course was the EASIEST class I have ever taken. Show up to class, and contribute in discussions and you've got a A. You do not need to buy the book, nor do you really need to study at all. His lectures revolve around current issues in politics, so bring those to the table if you want to distract the lecture. Or bring your laptop to pass time

The easiest class I've ever taken; all of our tests were either take home or open book. He is really into media and spends most lectures discussing media in Alaska, both past and present. He also knows a lot about Alaskan history. Try and mention good things about Seward.

If you are looking for a class where you can just sleep and pass doing absolutely nothing, take this class. Seriously. Great, chill, guy, but not a good professor. Wait his class was the EASIEST class I've ever taken in my entire life. That makes him an AMAZING professor.

Edgar Blatchford is one of the worst professors I have ever seen. He abuses his tenure by bribing his students with As. You just show up and you've got it. His lectures are about as insightful as watching grass grow. Every lecture devolves into life history. He never stays on point. His assignments come out of nowhere, and you learn nothing.

He is a nice person. Bad Prof. Looking for a class you can sleep through? Take his. If you want to learn ANYTHING AT ALL then find another class. Unorganized, wastes time, No grading info, opinions treated as fact, he speaks in rhetorical questions that he doesn't answer. No blackbaord. I learned nearly nothing but how to have my time wasted.

His class is insanely easy, just show up and take notes. The issue? He gives take home true false tests based on his notes, BUT YOU NEVER GET ALL THE NOTES!!!! All he does it babble about Nome and politics, so I haven't learned anything, and I had to fight for better grades because you're tested on information you NEVER receive.

He is a good guy, horrible teacher. Maybe better in a smaller class but lecture hall is horrible. I feel like I haven't learned much. Notes are a MUST, his tests are take home and easy (IF YOU HAVE NOTES FROM CLASS) the internet wont help you one bit. His slides are from the early 2000's so the data is different.

Really, really easy class. Blatchford is a nice, easygoing guy. All tests are T/F questions. However, you must take notes during class. Its hard to fail this class unless you choose to. I think he's Sarah Palin's #1 fan.

Easy class. Take home exams. Intro level, pretty dry material. All the exams are based on slides in class and easy T/F. Easy A.

Useless, makes me feel like I'm dying inside EVERY class period. He encourages freshman idiocy, never uses blackboard, has no solid assignment schedule and routinely fills class time with faux and outdated information to waste time. All of his tests are take home and are based ONLY on his notes in class. So there's your +
