Best professor that I had at Mercer University. Reading, attendance, and participation are mandatory. The professor cares about his students and is available if you ask for help or guidance

PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND TRANSCRIBE EVERYTHING HE SAYS. His tests are literally composed of what he says in class. Everyone says he's so hard, but I literally didn't read for that class - I just memorized his lectures and I got an A. I learned SO much and really respect him. Also go to office hours if you need a push over the edge to get the A.

Dr. Houry is an absolutely amazing professor. He is extremely challenging but do what he asks of you with a 100% effort and you will be fine. He wants you to try your hardest. He is always willing to help students. Even if you done understand the material right away it's okay. Show him you are trying your hardest. DO NOT SKIP CLASS LIKE EVER

Dr. Houry is the best professor I have ever had. His classes are extremely difficult but rewarding because you learn so much. Do not skip any of his classes and do all of the readings so you can pass his quizzes. Make sure you study really hard for his tests because they are extremely time consuming and graded hard.

I've had at least 2 courses/yr with him & he's my advisor. He's one of the smartest people I've ever met. He's challenging & has high expectations, but is very receptive when something is too much. His biggest goal is making sure students understand. He's the best resource to have at mercer in terms of getting things done. He will go to bat for you

Dr. Houry is, without a doubt, the most difficult professor in the department. However, if you read the text and review extensively before his tests you'll be fine. He's also a really wonderful human being and is willing to help or answer any questions you have before or after a test. If IAF is your intended major you'll take most classes with him.

I had to take this class for a requirement due to me being in the Liberal Arts school. If you do not love political scienceInt'l Affairs, good luck! You have to want to read the hundreds of pages and enjoy learning about this material to do well in this class, if not odds are you will not pass. Also, exams are easily 5+ chapters and all essays...

Going off the post above yes Dr. Houry did fail the majority of the class on the first test. However on the next test there was a dramatic improvement. Overall he is hard but as long as you study the book and take good notes in class you will be fine.

Absolutely horrible teacher. Will give out bad grades with no explanation. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! He failed over 90% of the class on the first test! Many so badly that they HAD to drop because there was no way to recover. And if you couldn't drop? Boo hoo for you.

Dr. Houry is difficult...like extremely beyond anything you could fathom to expect difficult. My major is IAF and it was very important for me to take his class. That being said, the man knows his stuff. If you show a real effort to pass his class, he'll show a real effort to help you. You'll learn a lot, but don't expect to make an A.

He is the hardest teacher in the challenging political science department. The only hard grades in the class are his tests, the rest is all fluff. Problem is, the tests require incredible amounts of memorization. However, if you study hard, his intelligence will rub off on you :)

dr. houry is without a doubt the hardest teacher in the political science department at mercer. that being said he is also the smartest. dont think for 1 second that you will be able to BS your way through any of this work. he doesnt accept it at all. his test are largely essays that are difficult to complete if your are not completely prepared
