He does not make eye contact. He mumbles to the board. He puts material on the test that he did not go over. Do not take him. He will kill your GPA.

Comment:
Orwoll's lectures are clearer, condensed and organized but I prefer Defotis--He lectures at a faster pace, puts down a lot of examples (albeit messy), and isn't too surprising on exams (4 total--format's tricky but it's lecture-based). Spacey and odd, but manages to hold my attention. As with Gen Chem I, taught myself a lot using the textbook.

Avoid this professor if possible. He is scatter-brained and cryptic on his best days. Taking notes in his class is very frustrating because it is so difficult to follow his train of though. Not a bad human being but a terrible gen-chem professor. STAY AWAY

Comment:
His handwriting is horrible and trying to decipher it interrupted my focus in class. He doesn't look up at the class at all, so you have to speak up to get his attention. Mumbles and talks into the blackboard so it's hard to hear sometimes. Goes through material fast, so a lot of learning must be on your own. Tests were a little on the hard side.

He is the stereotypical professor (seems engrossed the material, doesn't make much eye contact in class) but VERY helpful if you approach him. He has bad handwriting so you have to go to class and really listen to what he says. The class itself is pretty easy, it helps a lot to do the assigned problems in the book

I was scared of him, because he is so scared of his students. Very helpful if you do have the guts to ask questions, however. P-chem II is a bit harder than p-chemI, but I still got an A-. Make sure you understand minute details in his confusing notes. Don't just write what's on the board, pay attention to what he actually says. And try to keep up!

Extremely professional, well in tune with student abilities, I was unsure that I would enjoy CHEM 401 initially.. ended up loving it, if you show up to class and *pay attention* to what he says you'll get a good grade b/c he definitely isn't a "difficult" professor

Comment:
Defotis seems to be afraid of his students, which is not good when you teach a huge lecture course. If you don't read the book, you won't have a clue. Do lots of practice problems, and don't bother asking him questions; his explanations are worthless.
