He is very straightforward about his expectations. Just read the book and pay attention in class. He goes off on a lot of tangents but it is really interesting. He also shows a lot of movies too. He can be really intimidating but he definitely wants students to do well. I highly recommend.

As a person he's funny and interesting or whatever. But as a professor, he doesn't do much lecturing. He lectured over the first week of class and then for the rest of the session he just showed movies and spoke about his life experiences. You're basically self-teaching yourself. 2 tests, 50% each and his sense of "humor" shines through them.

Amazing professor, totally wish I could take his class again. He is an inspiration and his expertise really comes through in all his lectures. Very straightforward class with only a midterm and a final. It was an honor to be taught by such a prominent figure in Criminology.

One of the best professors at UCI. Laid back, funny, and very helpful. His lectures are very engaging and inspiring. Two exams, consist of multiple choice questions from readings, lectures, films. If you do the readings, they shouldn't be difficult. Pontell is a truly amazing professor who cares about his students. I wish he taught more classes.

Pretty easy and chill class, shows a lot of movies. No homework, just a midterm and a final that make up your grade. Questions are straight forward and he provides a study guide. I did very minimal studying (studied day of exams) and I got a B in the class overall. He's also very helpful. I would recommend this class.

Pontell articulates ideas clearly with plentiful real life examples. Straightforward, midterm & final which are both multiple choice. I found the book to be useful, especially for exams. This man is ah-mazing as well as hott! If only he offered more courses...

Super easy class, just watched movies. Never did any of the readings and only studied the day of the exams, got a B on the midterm, A on the final, and A- overall in the class. Tests were straight forward and mainly based on the main points of the movies, very easy if you paid attention to them and most were interesting. Take this class.

Definitely a class worth taking. 50% midterm and 50% final. Class consisted of watching movies. Just read/memorize the study sheet and you should be completely fine for the tests! If you have any questions on the test, make sure you ask him and he'll lead you in the right direction for the answer.
