I loved taking Cockfield! he is a funny man. he is not easy, though! the main thing to do to get a good grade in his class is to pay attention during lectures and take OCD not anything he writes on the board is important. class discussion are very important to your grade so know your material and talk about it. test are mostly lectures not the book

I took him for Western Civ and it was the worst decision of my life. I honestly should have taken a different course to fulfill that block. I would not recommend him to ANYONE. If you want to keep your GPA afloat and not have it lowered by a mere gen ed course, DO NOT TAKE HIM.

Comment:

Prof Cockfield is someone who reminds me of my military High School teachers. He is a genius and he thinks himself some type of comedian that may be a little to rough for the standard soft individuals of my generation. I personally find him entertaining and challenging. Would recommend him to anyone who is willing to work and actually learn.

I always loved history, and it was one of my best classes in high school. Taking Dr. Cockfield's class was a different world. His lectures were rarely about the actual lesson. He talked mostly about sex and how horrible Mercer students are. His tests were ridiculous and about things he never taught. I passed because he gave a ton of extra credit.

He's a hard professor, and he became even more impossible after reading some of the posts stating he's an easy professor. His tests are somewhat difficult, but that is because he uses old tests and doesn't remember if we had covered it that semester or not. Unless you like constantly going to argue with him, don't take him. i USED to love history.

Russian History (1850-present) was amazing. It was engaging, interesting, and applicable. It is HARD, but he is an amazing teacher.

DO NOT TAKE COCKFIELD!!! He is SO hard and absolutely horrible! His tests are impossible! I have no idea why there are people saying he's easy. So unless you know everything there is about history and love reading 100's of pages in textbooks, don't take him. I promise you, most people drop, fail or do poor in his class.

It is sad to say I have taken the last class I can with Dr. Cockfield. He is one of the easier professors on campus, but you will learn a whole lot. Most people get As from him, so I think that is why he is so popular. Enjoy his awesome classes!

DO NOT TAKE COCKFIELD! WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. It doesn't matter how smart you may think you are, or how much you plan to study, it is TERRIBLE. The tests are mostly fill in the blank with no word bank. He talks the whole class, but then uses the book for the test. JUST DON'T DO IT.

My favorite professor! He is so interesting to hear lecture. He MAKES you love history and everything about it. It is definitely a GPA boosting class. You may even learn a thing or two. Cockfield for President! He looks good too! ;)

SUPER EASY!!! I hate history, and he made it such an easy class! You don't even have to study for his multiple choice exams! No memorization of names, dates, or significant events! He is the easiest professor at Mercer! Have Fun!

As long as you pay attention and take good notes from his lectures you will be fine. Study the notes very specifically because he asks very specific questions. Reading the book is a good idea as well. He gives many opportunities for extra credit on your final average. Great guy and I would highly recommend his class.

Comment:

Tests are very high schooly. Makes you learn names rather than big ideas. If you cannot memorize things well, do not take his class. Grading scale sucks (95-100 is an A, 75-85 is a B, etc.) Tests are 25 fill in the blank and 25 multiple choice. Book questions do occur on the tests, but you can do fine on the tests without reading. READ HIS BOOK!!!!

Very tough, but not impossible. You need to show up EVERY day. You need to pay close attention & take very detailed notes. Tests are fill in the blank and rely heavily on memorization & spelling (there is no word bank). He gives ample extra credit opportunities and is VERY helpful if you have questions outside of class.

He is a good man. He's had a lot of experience through traveling the world--and he lets you know it. READ THE BOOK despite what anyone tells you! The questions are sometimes worded funny and expect low test scores. But, if you show him you're trying (office hours, participating in book discussions), he'll boost your grade by A WHOLE LOT at the end.

Comment:

We have a word to describe Cockfield where I come from: curious. He is just different. His class was, to me at least, hilarious and informative at the same time. Put on tough skin, go in expecting nothing, and you might come out better for having taken him. As for a grade, I was lucky to get an A; most weren't. Tough class, but worth it for me.
