He's very specific about works but not in a bad way. Syllabus was followed perfectly and everything is structured nicely. He's a nice guy and a great professor and he gives good feedback. Overall, his class was great.

He's nothing special but he was better than other professors I had. We didn't do much and it was an easy A, especially for someone who isn't a drawer like me.

Hicks is a strange dude-on the first day of class, he went on a 20 minute tangent about hurricanes, crime, and secret tunnels underneath the city. He grades harshly, though it's not impossible to get a B even if you suck at realism. Beware of the quizzes; the post-test, and a midterm/final that have no wordbank, and arent taught in class.

Hicks is pretty quite but is a nice guy. The projects could've been more interesting but they were fine for an easy A. The midterm and the final are basically the same. Just study the drawing terms and you're good for both tests! He plays jazz while you work which is really fun. He won't really be social so don't expect a conversation with him.

I really enjoyed having him as a teacher. Yeah he wasnt the normal style of Professor but if you try to get to know him hes actually really fun! He doesnt talk a lot but if you ask him for clarification he will explain it to you in so many different ways until you understand it. Definitely take him.

I love him. He may look reserved on the outside but it's only the first impression. He gives a lot of feedback if you ask for and teaches the techniques really well. Don't expect much talking in the class, it's mainly drawing, but that means that there's fewer homework. I love his classes, would take him again anytime.

Hicks is okay and funny in his own weird way. He's demos are short which is sometimes good but also he doesn't teach much. He has a few really good techniques. Very tough grader can't get over an 85 in his class which is frustrating.

He's a nice guy but a terrible professor. A big offender of being lax in class then springing a million and two things on you last minute. He also doesn't explain anything, we are way of the syllabus, and everyone is lost Also, his music sounds like the SCAD orientation music that they use to show the kids' art before they actually start anything

Hicks kinda stayed by his desk the entire quarter after giving very vague instructions on the given project. But sometimes he'll hover around the desks and say "nice" but then give you a B. You really have to push him if you want any advice or feedback. For almost every assignment I turned in I wasn't sure if I did it right.

While Professor Hicks isn't the worst teacher in the world, he certainly isn't great. He doesn't give you proper feedback while working on your projects. When asking him for critique, he would often tell me it was good and finished. Then, he would proceed to give me a grade that didn't reflect his commentary. He also doesn't teach you much.

I really enjoyed this class. Hicks has a very laid back personality and wont say much unless the student asks for feedback on work. If you work hard on your projects and do what your suppose to do in class you'll rarely have homework. He doesn't teach much, the projects he assigns challenge the students skills and allow for self discovery.

He's very quiet, but he's a pretty good teacher. You can learn a couple handy tricks to make drawing a bit easier. He doesn't give a lot of feedback, but he does give positive reactions to work

He loves his jazz music and there isn't a moment it stops so be prepared for that. Most of the time in his class, he'll give you very vague instructions to a point in a project then tells you as he's hovering around the class what the next step is. If you want a detailed answer, give a detailed question.

Hicks is a nice person, but not a very good professor. He was not clear with instructions, and there were multiple times he got mad at me for asking questions. He would show us a powerpoint on our new assignment, and then would sit at his desk on his computer or phone for the whole class. It felt like going to the class was a waste of time. Easy A

One of the easiest classes I've taken so far. At first Hicks seems boring but once you get to know him he's actually really funny and wants you to do well. His projects aren't difficult but he expects you to go that extra step to get an A. I would most definitely take him again without a doubt.

This class is incredibly easy if you already have some background in design/color theory. If you don't know much this class will probably make you even more confused because the professor rarely gives lectures and doesn't assign reading. Also you probably won't get any feedback on your work and it's difficult to improve or feel challenged.

Hicks is ok, but if you already have a good deal of drawing/painting experience, you won't feel challenged or inspired in his class. The assignments are fairly straightforward, but they're reminiscent of high school "intro to art" projects sometimes and won't build your portfolio. Asking for help seems to annoy him, so listen when he instructs.
