American Art is awesome. Lot of memorization & reading but totally manageable. Mostly lecture, but she's very engaging & passionate about art! Very accessible outside class & fast email response. Take good notes & read textbook/assigned readings and you will do fine. B+ to A- totally doable. I definitely would take her again for another art course!

Love her!! Took two of her classes and she is so passionate about her work. Her passion drove me to consider Art History as a major! Her lectures are not so interactive, yet engaging. You don't have to read if you pay attn in class and take notes. Her exams are pretty simple, but alot of memorization. She is a harsh grader when it comes to papers.

Participation is 25% of the final grade -- really benefits those who like to talk at the expense of those who don't. 2 papers, both requiring you to go to museums and submit tickets as proof. Prompts are very clear. Pop quizzes based on the day's readings are a part of the participation grade, though we only had one. Final exam is quick/easy.

She is so passionate about the subject, which makes an otherwise boring class very interesting. Also, if you just study the material she explicitly gives you in class, you will get an A. She was so sweet and I would take another class of hers all over again.

Generally very nice, helpful to anyone who asks questions. Only has 3 tests throughout the year, no midterm and the final is weighed as a normal test. She has you write 2 papers which require visits to museums. Very fair grader, what you put in is what you get out.

I have never enjoyed art, but thanks to professor Heleniak, I had an amazing experience and leaned a lot. If you take notes and go to class, you can get an A easily. We had two papers and three non-cumulative exams during the course. She was always really helpful and clear with questions. 100% recommended.

Very good teacher and interesting class. Expect do to a lot of work. She grades you in a fair manner but students can find her tough if they don't know the material. I would highly recommend this class as long as you are willing to do work. Professor Heleniak is a great teacher and makes the subject very enjoyable.

She is a great teacher but not the easiest grader. She really makes you know the material well and can grade very strictly. She is very nice once you get to know her. As a biology major I still found this class very interesting and did well. Take her as she is a great teacher and interesting but expect to do work.

She's an okay professor. She jumps a lot from topic to topic. I get lost when I take notes, and all the notes won't even matter because she'll only use like 10 works on the tests which I never managed to pass. Lot of museum trips, that leaves a dent in your pocket. Just avoid the class and you'll dodge a lot of stress in the future.

Writing this from the class. Lets put it this way, I began counting down the classes left from the second day. Regardless of what people say, worst class ever. She is very smart but she's never failed to put me to sleep -- not once. So much information to know for tests (only 3), so much note taking. Avoid at ALL costs.

Incredibly smart. Lectures are packed so prepare to take nonstop notes. Memorization is kind of hard but she doesn't grade it too harshly. Pretty easy to slack on the readings as long as you pay attention. Take her if you're actually interested in art history, she knows her stuff.

Intro to AH: Professor Heleniak is certainly one of the best teachers I've had here. Her knowledge of the subject is profound and her sense of humor always on key. Also, shes very helpful outside of the classroom. The class is challenging but not impossible. Dont expect an easy A and make sure to attend each class and you'll do fine.

Her lectures were boring, and her tests were very strange. I could not figure this woman out all semester. Also, so made us buy a 14907238lb book that cost $100+ and then decided not to use it next semester. Thank you, professor.
