Dr. Kris Crossen is retiring, but I thought I would give her a good review. I took Historical geology with her, and she was one of the most thorough professors I have ever had. Her tests included the style of, "Show me what you know", and not memorize flashcards. She was one of the most enthusiastic teachers I have ever had. Words cannot express.

Best class I've ever taken, if you're a student that likes to learn take it with Kris. If you are just in it for the scooting through school, don't take her because the material is THICK.

If you get a chance take Glacial and Quaternary Geology with Kris, it is her specialty and her passion for glaciers is contagious. Field trip was awesome-hiked the Mat glacier. Lots of handouts and she lectures from memory, creates notes every class. Exams based on notes not text book-you have to show up. Homework/exams straight forward.

Wonderful professor, who is really smart and passionate about her field. She knows whats she's talking about and seems to care for her students. Going to class is a must as her tests are 100% from the notes you take in class. She likes to tell her students to "memorize the notes" which is exactly what you have to do.

Kris provides clear, highly structured lectures & provides handouts & diagrams to better illustrate her points. She's funny and courteous. If you have a question, she's happy to clarify. Her exams are tough, but you can use a crib sheet (if you don't, she gives you 10 extra points on the exam!). If you only take one UAA class, take Kris' GEOL221.

Great Professor. Extremely helpful and approachable. Tough class, most questions on exams come from lecture notes and lab assignments. Field trips were helpful in understanding key concepts as well. Can be funny and makes jokes sometimes as well.

She's well organized and she goes over everything you'll need to know for the exams, so if you go to class and take good notes for your crib sheet it works out great... but her exams are HARD.

The class is very routine, but interesting to those who are interested in the topics. Lecture is basically just note-taking.The handouts should be updated since they are very diff. to read.If you opt to use a crib sheet for the tests make sure you put everything on it!It will help a LOT.She is very approachable and will help you with any question.

This course needs to be updated to the 21st century. Hand outs from 1993, fuzzy and irrelevant. Taught in a rote manner with no passion or care if the students get it. Lab disorganized and useless.

Tons of work, be sure to write a thorough crib sheet for the tests. Lots of people failed the first test in my class because they were under prepared. Kris is awesome, she is very friendly and helpful.

TOUGH but the best teacher I've ever had! With a lot of work and near perfect attendance I barely pulled off an A but I learned A LOT! I recommend before you take her tests know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING she's said in lecture, take excellent notes. Her tests are all essay questions and she'll ask tough questions.

I took historical with Kris. She's great. It's tough, but really interesting. Got me a little more hooked on Geology. Make sure you take good notes of all the little details, because they WILL be on the test. I recommend writing a rediculously detailed crib sheet for tests. Historical lab is great too, with Sarah.
