Comment:
Dr. Power can be intimidating he wants his students to actually learn the material and not coddle them. He likes to call out on students for questions, especially those who do not pay attention in class. Use his office hours to ask questions/go over materials, you can get a better explanation. There's extra credit if you miss class less than 3x.

No group projects. The textbook is not needed. Go to class and study what he says about the powerpoint slides and you'll be golden. He is extremely knowledgable and cares for his students. I would definitely take his class again. Study hard for the exams because they are definitely difficult but manageable. Extra credit awarded for attendance.

Especially hard for people who cannot follow his talking speed. He wants everyone in his class to get high grade and do well, but his class is every difficult and the test is very hard, the solution can be 5 times length than the questions itself. Careful to choose the class. BUT! He is a nice person.

Mark is a very good professor with a passion for finance. His tests are really long, especially for a 75 minute class, but fair. Extra credit for articles and participation are helpful.

Mark is a great professor and cares about his students. He knows your name by the second week, so be prepared to answer questions. The book wasn't necessary so don't buy it. The tests are extremely long - 60 to 80 multiple choice questions with two short answer questions in 75 minute exam. Great class, would take again.

This class is really difficult if you aren't a finance major. He's really knowledgeable but sometimes speaks over students heads. He didn't give any extra credit when I took his class. Almost a 13 of my class got a D or lower so definitely be prepared to study hard for tests. The textbook isn't really necessary--just go to every class.

Dr. Power is an awesome professor. He definitely makes a topic that most people find mundane actually very interesting. He's extremely smart, and sometimes he talks over our heads a lot. But he's super helpful and gives a decent amount of extra credit to make up for the extremely hard tests.

Best finance professor I have ever had. Makes a topic that most people find boring very interesting. Good to every class and take good notes and you will get an A or B. Tests are a little bit tricky but overall a great test to take. Applies to all aspects of life and risk management.

Power is the best professor I've had at ISU. His class is very challenging, but he gives a fair amount of extra credit and is always willing to help out his students. Exams are very difficult. Overall, you learn a lot about stuff useful to everyone, not just finance majors. Great guy, great class.

Great guy. Really wants to see students succeed. Learns everybody's' names and gets everyone involved in discussions. Sometimes he speaks really fast and it's hard to follow, but he's more than happy to answer your questions. Not an easy A, but it's certainly attainable. Main advice: go to class regularly and pay attention. You'll learn a lot.

He has high but definitely reasonable standards for students in his class to attend class, take thorough notes, and ask questions. He's a great teacher but often speaks above students' understanding of insurance. He's very helpful if you ask questions, though.

Best finance professor at Iowa State, hands down. You can really tell he cares about his students doing well and prepares you well for all quizzes and tests. Even if you aren't wanting to go into the insurance field, the material is really useful for everyday life. It won't be the easiest A, but anyone who tries should get the grade they deserve.

Easily one of the best professors at ISU. He really knows his stuff and cares about his students doing well. It is a fairly challenging, but anyone who puts in the work will be fine. Not a great class to be lazy and not study for.

Go to class and you'll have an A if you listen. Note taking not necessary if you pay attention. Don't buy the text book. Most of the material is easy to understand and what isn't easily understood is explained well. Quizzes and exams are given with extra credit built in (30 points graded out of 25)

Great professor! Make sure to go to class because he takes attendance. Don't buy the book, I never used it and got an A. He gives a few extra credit opportunities so take advantage. Tests and quizzes can be a little difficult to understand, but just make sure you read through the questions to make sure you understand exactly what it is asking.

Phenomenal teacher and person. Will go out of his way to help you and answer any question even if it has nothing to do with class. Go to class and pay attention! He gives lots of extra credit and you have to work for your A but many should be able to pull off at least a B. Also take his 462, harder but he is a great teacher so definitely worth it.

He's great at teaching the material by keeping the class involved. Unlike most teachers at IA state, he knows everyone by name within the first couple of weeks. Paying attention in class will help you succeed on tests, as well as increasing your financial aptitutde. I would recommend his class to anyone interested in finance.

He's a good teacher. Enthusiastic and friendly, he will go out of his way to help you out. Offers plenty of extra credit. Only complaint is that his test questions can be a little unclear...he says he wants to make you think, but sometimes it is difficult just figuring out what is being asked. Good overall though.
