Comment:
The text book is out of date and so are the slides. Attitude is dismissive, bored and defensive towards students and subject matter. The power point lectures made for a fractured learning experience. I really wanted to learn the subject matter but feel like time was wasted despite getting a good grade.

Should not be a professor for a media class. She is stuck in the 60's and can hardly work a computer to post grades. Belittles students when they are wrong. Classes are dull and uninviting. Just save yourself and do not associate with this professor by any means.

I have mixed feelings after my quarter with Martha. I enjoyed the course material. I did not, however, enjoy Martha's manner of teaching. I found her teaching style to be contradictory to effective communication. Some in the class were miffed as to where her exam material came from but it was all in the text. Work hard and you'll get an A.

Very dry, boring lectures. When you ask for clarification she tells you to "read the book". She does not care if life happens. If you miss an assignment or a test you will not be given the chance to make it up. Be prepared to read a bunch. I would not recommend taking her class if there is another instructor available, go with them. Good luck!

On an average week you either get super long boring lectures in which she outlines everything we just read in the text, or we sit and watch stupid videos on sustainability and racism and all kinds of other stuff. Martha is a proud member of the Sea Shepard Conservation Society and will make sure everyone knows it. Guaranteed. Very annoying.

Martha missed 6 total class periods the quarter I took her and made it really hard to learn the material. Her lectures would contradict the text, and we would spend a ton of time talking about things very unrelated to the content. She was near impossible to get ahold of. Dont. Take. Her. Class. Find a different teacher to take it with.

Martha was overall an okay teacher, but she was impossible to access outside of class. She would respond to emails extremely rarely, and this made scheduling makeup tests within 3 days impossible. The lectures were sluggish and bland, but it is a very easy class to pass. Just attending lectures and doing the required reading will make it an easy A.

Martha was a great teacher. It was her first hybrid class so she was just figuring out the way things worked, but she always worked with the class if we had any problems. She gives good feedback and if you do the assignments assigned to you every week then you will do good in this class.

Martha is not a bad professor, and she is quite kind. I'd take her class again. But, she is a bit scatterbrained, and definitely not very tech savvy when it comes to using Canvas. But, she cares and is willing to help you succeed. Just be patient with her updating assignments online, and you'll do fine. Class is pretty easy overall, just do the work

I've seen negative reviews here for Martha, but I found her to be a great professor. Helpful, flexible, and relaxed. Though a bit unorganized, she often asked the class our opinion on due dates and what we wanted to learn about that wasn't on the syllabus. She is a fair grader-if you understand the basic concept of a theory full credit given.

Martha is a fine person, she is just very unorganized. I took this as a Hybrid class and she was just about impossible to reach outside of class. Sometimes she would forget to post a submission box for the paper so we would all be emailing her with no reply, hoping she got the paper in time. Wrote just about 9 papers in this class...

I took this class thinking I would actually learn about Intercultural communications, but she basically made it an environmental class. She pushed her own bias and opinions, often got political, and was generally rude. I would not recommend.

Comment:
The way Martha interacts with students is not appropriate. She needs to welcome and encourage students of all levels without judgement but unfortunately, students are scoffed at or eye-rolled at when they contribute and it's simply frustrating to watch. For that reason, I would not take her class again if you paid me. Otherwise the class was easy.

Though the class is reasonably easy, she's one of the most condenscending people I've ever met in my life. She doesn't give clear criteria for homework and when you ask her to clarify anything, she simply repeats what she said originally and makes a rude comment, always. She's disrespectful and doesn't take the time to listen to students.

Martha is a traditional teacher and follows her syllabus to the T. She encourages class participation and allows everyone to voice their opinions on matters. Tests aren't too bad if you've read the textbook and done your assignments.

Martha is a traditional style teacher, I really liked that. However if you are looking for a teacher who will accept your excuses she isn't the one. her expectations are clearly stated in the syllabus and reiterated by her clearly through out the quarter. I think she is a great teacher as long as you understand you're there to learn.

I really enjoyed Martha's class. Read the textbook and takek notes on videos to do well on tests. The final project was a challenge, but I learned a lot. If you talk to her, she is willing to work with you if you have a family emergency. Great instructor. She is a little more traditional in her teaching.

Seems the reviews are inconsistent, some people really like Martha, others not so much. I will say my interactions with Martha have been fine. She tries to understand where people are coming from but in a large classroom with competitive people, she reins the talkers in a bit. I think if you try to bully her, she pushes back but I like that.

Martha is a really friendly and intelligent woman who has clear and fair expectations that she asks of her class. The class is primarily based around student presentations, and obviously that can get painfully dry at times, but she herself as an instructor is very good. I recommend taking her class for your Communications credit.
