She was very caring & willing to work with you, but her class involves SO much work. Had to read 6 children's books and a novel every week and write individual reviews on them. ALSO had to write our own children's book! Midterm and Final are not easy. Dr. Austin is very passionate about education, and she keeps you on your toes. Good luck.

Dr. Austin is a phenomenal professor, and she is more than willing to help anyone who needs it. The workload is hefty, though. Taking the class with more than 15 hours would not be easy. Assigns weekly readings, a writing on the reading, and a reflection on your writing. There is also a large observation component. All in all, it's a great class.

The work is not unduly difficult, but there is a LOT of it. Stay on top of the readings, and make your comments on LibraryThing relevant (how would you use the book in a classroom? She wants critical thinking). Study hard and do well on the take-home midterm and you won't have to take the in-class final exam (it covers the SAME stuff).

Dr. Austin is by far my favorite professor at UNO. She is very passionate about what she does. You will never see books the same way again. She gets to really know you, you are not one more student taking a sit in her class. The workload is not hard but it's a lot, so don't wait till the last minute. I highly recommend her. Very understanding.

The work load is intense so make sure you keep up with it. She does give extensions and is very generous. Great teacher. If you aren't prepared for class one day- just email her and explain. She'll take pity on you for sure.

Dr. Austin is the greatest teacher I've had so far. She helped me realize that Secondary Education-English is a better fit for me than Elementary Education. She is very available to meet with you to discuss assignments or just talk. The workload is overwhelming at times, but what you gain from the class is definitely worth all the time and effort!

When I first got in this class I wanted to drop, but the key to my success was to attend everyday and read as many easy books as possible. The easy books will carry you over on your quota plus the other books she assigns. Dr. Austin is cool and shows how reading needs to be incorporated across the curriculum.

She is hard, but will work with you if you ask. She has several papers due-take them to the lab or have someone proof read them. If you make a low grade go talk to her; she will give you all the time you need to improve your grade (turn in assignment on time then she gives you extra time to improve).

My favorite teacher so far. Intense work load, very easy to get behind. She is very understanding and is passionate about her work. Mid term and final are pretty tough. Overall, the class is excellent and I really loved it. She is inspiring!

She is a good teacher... She is very very passionate about books!! She gives a lot of work. I felt that she believed that her class was our life. You have a childrens book due every week!(sometimes long) She expects your author study to be about 10 pages! She grades a little intense, but if you talk to her she will let you revise your work!
