This class was online, so I could not contact him directly. I emailed him twice, in which he only replied after the second email. Grading is unclear & online materials are not very user friendly. Lots of reading, though the textbook is free. Accelerated, so make sure to keep up with the work or you won't pass.

Comment:

Overall his knowledge of the material is great and he seems to harbor a real passion for the subject. However, he isn't the best at communicating his knowledge to his students. You also have to work hard to do well on the exams, they are pretty challenging.

This class is really stressful if you're trying to take notes. He goes through the slides way too fast and draws on the board then erases it before you can look up. His lectures do not stop until the very last second and he doesn't usually go over what he said in the last minute at the start of the next class. And he looks just like Jeff Garlin.

Dr. A was great. Really cares about his students grade if THEY care. Willing to answer any questions and go over exams with you. Passionate about the topic and tries to make bio as interesting as it can be at 8am. Definitely recommend him

I had Dr. A for BIO LAB ONLY, so I can only comment on that. As far as lab goes, he is pretty straight forward. He does have his favorites. He explains the lab pretty quickly so pay attention when he does, he doesn't like repeating himself. Overall it was OK. He didn't grade labs to hard.

He is very passionate about the material so his explanations come across as clear and concise. He also provides many examples you can relate to the topic. I never used the book in the class, but that's just me. He is very helpful if you go in and ask for it.

I did not like Bio to begin with but he made it a nightmare. Guy knows what he's talking about,gets of topic fairly easily. You must show up and take very good notes. Read the book and re-do your notes. Does not prep well for exams. Bright side is as lab instructor he is very good. Be prepared to study your butt off for every exam esp. the final.

Dr. Arriola makes a tough subject more approachable. Personality wise he is the most approachable and nice professor from the Biology department. THe classes he teaches are no doubt challenging, but he makes them a little bit more manageable. I would definitely recommend him. I have taken 3 classes with him and my experience has been consistent.

I thought this was a really hard class. It is all lecture, I really don't know where all the test questions came from, the 1st time I took his test I seriously thought it was for a different class. KILLED myself to get a B in that class..it was a GEN ED!!...but he will help you with labs, and you can tell he LOVES bio

Although the class was difficult, I thought Dr.Arriola did a great job of really showing enthusiasm and interest in the subject matter. His love for teaching is obvious and he was always easily available to ask for help or to clear up a question. Yes, the class was hard, but it's bio. Man up. I would definitely take a class with him again. :)

One of the worst experiences I had in a class. He is very enthusiastic about the subject matter but I am more discouraged about biology than ever. I would never take another class with him. I learned alot but I still disagree with his teacing methods and the way he ran his class. My advice would be not take the class unless u have to.

Best bio teacher i ever had. I wasn't interested in Human Bio prior to this class i just took it as a gen ed and didnt care much, but the way Mr. A teaches actually made me want to pay attention. I would completely recommend him to everyone!
