Comment:
Even though Magee is knowledgeable in his field (Near Eastern Archaeology), he uses an "old-school" method of teaching and is really, really inaccessible, particularly if you are a student who needs additional accessibility. No syllabus (!), no definite dates for anything, and he's really cocky, which was evident after 1st class. Easy if you try.

I took ESEM with him and was a really engaging class with interesting subject material, but as time went on, it became less and less organized. He was never the most clear person so writing essays was always an anxiety rollercoaster. He does not grade that difficultly if you write decently well.

Great professor - super interesting and really wants to help you do well. Class is largely essay based --- does not give 4.0s on essays

I took my ESEM with him and it has been my favorite class yet. He is very open to student opinions and encourages discussions more than anything else. He goes off on tangents sometimes, but he's very interesting and approachable. He is incredibly understanding and will help you out if you need it.

This professor makes learning about the Ancient Near East very interesting. After taking a course with him during my junior year, I wished that I had chosen to be an archeology major. He makes archeology relatable and understandable to any student, regardless of your level.

The only class I won't miss no matter what. Very interesting lectures and thoughts about the topic. I also like the lack of textbook. We read a lot of articles and papers. It completely changes the way you think about the class material. The accent doesn't hurt either ;)

He is obviously really smart (and awkward)... but seems more focused on his outside class research. No midterm or final, only one research paper and a map quiz. Not really a very interesting lecturer, but he's got a cool accent Northern Irish/Australian, i think.

(Archaeology Dep't, Pottery Analysis class.) 'It's wrong' is not the most helpful statement I've ever heard. Doesn't get more helpful when repeated.
