This was the worst teacher that I have had in my 4 years at IUP...DO NOT take this teacher his grading is completely unfair and asking for help is not even an option.

This man is not a good professor. He does not care if you get a good grade or end up failing because of his enormous ego. He looks down on people who do poorly on his essay exams, which are impossible as it is. He used to teach in a prison (this is fact) and therefore seems to feel that he can treat ALL students as such. Avoid at all costs.

Randy was pretty tough in the beginning, but I ended up loving his course and was rewarded with the best grade he had ever given a student on the final paper. If you are willing to think outside the box and put the time and patience in, you'll have a great experience.

Comment:

Dr. Martin is one of the hardest teachers that I have ever taken a Crim class from. This class sounded interesting and fun, and he has turned that into the complete opposite. He is not helpful what so ever. I sent him an email asking for help and what he wanted to see and he just said write more. Real helpful thanks. Don't recommend his class!

I absolutely love Dr. Martin!! I wish that I could have him for the rest of my Crim classes!!! As long as you attend class there is not reason you should not pass! He is a great guy and I love his sarcasm it makes the class fun!

Horrible teacher, very tough on grading. He makes new rules that aren't on the syllabus to make it even tougher to pass. I sent him an email asking for help on an assignment and he completely ignored it.He doesn't care if you have a job or other class work, excepts you to devote 100% of your time to him. First class in my college career I failed.

Mostly discussion-why did I pay 2 listen 2 opinions of classmates? Martin is a tough grader, & b prepared 2 write! He's not happy unless you write a darn book in response to his ridiculously insane discussion questions. He doesnt give alot of time 2 do it. Attendence is mandatory and he gets real mad if ur late. He can be a bit rude at times too.

I learned so much from Randy Martin. The class was mostly discussion, and there was a lot of reading and writing, but both were necessary in order understand the material. I learned more from this class than I have in the rest of my college career, it changed my world view. Next semester is my last and I hope to take him for CRIM 403.

I took Dr. Martin this summer for Violence and Victimology and I really learned a lot from him. He was really involved in the discussion threads and he really made you think about things differently. I really loved the class and I am taking him again for crim 401 this semester. I highly recommend taking him. I got an A in his class.

dr. martin is pretty tough and not exactly helpful, but you definitely learn alot and only having finished the online class about 2 weeks ago, i have already applied alot of what we learned. it was an interesting class and he picks current topics for discussions. recommended if you're serious about crim..or just want a challenge.

If you have half a mind you will take this man and learn from his ideas. The crim department as we know it has only a limited number of great thinkers and this man is one of them. His ideas are un-paralleled. He teaches things not normal to the curriculum but necessary for further knowledge and expansion of the mind. Simply Amazing

I really liked this guy. By far the hardest class I've ever had, but I learned a lot. If you don't mind working hard for your grade then take him. Looking back on it he made me a better student, but it felt like hell while I was going through the class.

Mr. Martin is the best professor I have had at IUP. His class is phenominal. He really encourages discussion and there is no tests. There is quite a bit of writing but if you have any interest at all in the subject it is easy. Take this professor.
