One of the best professors I have ever had the chance to take a class with. He is tough, so if you're used to professors always giving you a pat on the back and telling you that you did a great job, then don't take his classes. The great thing about this is that it will mold you into a better student, specifically, a better musician.

Bauer is a really really tough teacher. But he clearly loves music and inspired me to work harder in his class that any other. He sets very high expectations but the people who don't work to reach them are the people that get in to music because they think it will be easy. Bauer is the best theory professor Ive ever had!

Bauer is very passionate about Music Theory and he really knows his stuff! He may get frustrated at times but its usually because people are sleeping or not paying attention. If you really pay attention and listen to him, then you can learn so much!

Even though Ross is a very intelligent individual, he can seriously discourage you from stay in music major, especially composition track. The amount of work you have to put into his class is way more than a 3 units class. Worst of all he treats this lower division class as if everyone is going to be a composition major.

I have never encountered such a mean spirited educator in all my years of school. He takes a subject like music that one should love and does whatever he can to make you hate it. He is very condescending, if you go to him for help he will patronize and berate you. He is bad at explaining, an unwilling to help and gets a joy out of failing students.

While I can understand why students may get frustrated with him, if he calls you out in front of others, it's because you were on your cell phone or talking while he is talking. He knows music and for this composition class especially, he really helped me.

Class is not bad, you should be fine as long as you go to class and do the assigned readings. Quizzes, midterm, and the essay were pretty easy. The final was kind of tough. Just make sure you study one era/artist well so you'll have something to write about for the essay on his tests.

He is very antagonistic, cruel to his TA (who is wonderful) and unavailable for questions, office hours...you name it. He makes snide comments and is ready to deride students. He does love jazz tremendously, however, so it makes up for all his poor demeanor. The class is fun if you enjoy the music - moreover, it is easy regardless of your interest

He explains material somewhat well, but he's very unwilling to help students. I went to his office hours to try and ask for help and he was very condescending and patronising and was no help at all. I used to love music theory, but I wound up dropping the class because it was so frustrating.

Bauer is the most frustrating teacher in the department. He is rigid, never organized, interrupts his students and simply cannot facilitate learning. He can also be very rude to students in front of others, and what is worse, is that he has no clue that he has been rude because he has absolutely no self awareness.

Slow, boring, uninteresting, and unchallenging. Provided lots of gimmies on tests that were designed for elementary school students. Avoid.
