Comment:

Took Dr. Satie's ENG 364 course in Spring 2013. At the time, I had been taking exclusively upper div science courses for 1 yr. Reading and reflecting on each author's short story was a welcome change of pace. Reading each story before class and recording my thoughts before and after class was enough to do very well. Overall: a genuine pleasure.

You will either love or hate her. She has a strong opinion and its best to agree with her. If you try hard and ask for help she will love you. Go to class, we get out early anyway. Don't be late and bring your textbook to class, you will do fine.

Honestly, I loved Professor Satie. She was my professor when I was a freshman, and is still my favorite four years later. I learned how to write decent papers that are straight to the point, no "fluff". Her criticism is so constructive, which I'm so grateful for because it made me a better writer. I'd take her a million more times if I could.

She is the toughest grading professor I've ever had. I kept getting the same grade on every paper! In regards to the discussions, you are either right or horribly wrong, there is no in between.

Everyone who's reading this, do not listen to the negative reviews. She's very helpful and cares for the students' concerns. If and when she assigns us to write an essay based on some sort of controversial topic, it's not like you'll be graded harshly. She will help you with it, step-by-step. Take her class, she's an awesome professor.

I don't know what people are complaining about. Satie is a passionate professor and actress. Do the readings, pay attention in class, and participate. I was really disappointed in my class because no one really spoke much. We're in college; interact with each other. It should be an easy A if you read and participate.

I enjoyed her class, there was a class discussion everyday on the readings she assigned and as long as you did the readings you would understand. The class discussions helped a lot for the essays we had. There was 1 essay 1 in class essay and 1 quiz.

Horrible professor. All the negative comments below are completely accurate. She is very biased. Gives 3 essays that are supposed to be three different types when in reality it's 3 research papers based on her opinion. I loved writing and putting my creativity on paper, now I completely dread going to English class and writing. STAY AWAY!

Wonderful Professor. Encourages conversation and discussions about the stories. Easy class. Read the great, thoroughly enjoyable short stories, keep a journal, participate in class. Easy A. Have no idea what the bad comments are. Guessing these kids were no shows who didn't do the work. Satie is sweet and an absolute joy! Esp if you love literature

She is a great professor. To all who keep saying she does not allow you to express your views, you were most likely completely and utterly wrong. She does believe in wrong answers, so if you say something blatantly incorrect, she will correct you with a professional demeanor. She explains key concepts expertly, and teaches passionately.

if you go to all the class meetings and do all the assignments, you'll do fine in the class. However, her techique to teaching makes it a drag to go to class. When you don't do your homework, she yells at you about it and embarrasses you. When she criticizes your essays, it doesn't help. I didn't enjoy this teacher very much.

She is useless if you need help. We just did an essay and I didn't quite understand the topic. I went to her office ours and she gives me ideas. Ok cool, but then she fails me because I used the ideas we discussed about. Also she gets ticked if you have a different opinion or thought than hers.
