Comment:

Professor Haynes is a solid programming teacher. His lectures are interactive and engaging so if you pay attention and practice outside of class regularly you will do well because the examples he goes over in class are pretty solid. On top of that his eccentric personality is hilarious. Sometimes he can be a bit to eccentric but it's nothing major.

Comment:

Steve is a great guy. But, he didn't decide to post ANY grades until finals week. It is group project heavy. Be ready to focus on one startup idea for most of the semester. You will come out with lots of tangible things for an interview but you need to show up to class. Participation matters.

Comment:

He gives good, constructive feedback on assignments and answers questions promptly. I took this class through World Campus so there were no lectures and our only interactions consisted of grade feedback and questions I emailed him. He's one of the better World Campus instructors that I've taken classes with so far.

Great lecturer. Teaches the material clearly. Grading is fair and expectations are clear. He is one of those professors that can make the entire class laugh and teach well at the same time. If you can take a class with him go for it.

Comment:

Class is a breeze if you have any experience working in Java. The material is almost entirely self-taught, class is just practicing writing programs or working on graded programming assignments. Quizzes are bi-weekly and tend to resemble the homework problems. Professor Haynes has a very interesting style of humor but he's a pretty chill guy.

Wanna learn a lot? Take his class. It is such a privilege for IST students to have him in IST! Students in his section are different from the other sections; they are passionate about learning. I met successful IST alumnus(EY,Deloitte,...).They all recommend his class. It actually helps you to get a job. Your resume will become beautiful.

Haynes is an amazing professor, one of the best. The class isn't the easiest, but he does a great job at clarifying any questions you have and he's always helpful. He's somewhat intimidating when you first meet him, but he's really hilarious and a very kind person once you get used to him. I would definitely take another class with him.

Dr Haynes is a really good teacher. He's very interactive, and challenges you to learn. However, most of the material you will learn is from zybooks, but their shouldn't be any excuse. Before the quizes he will hold a class to pretty much go over what he expects you to know on the quiz. Alot of fun and a funny/great professor

I already knew a lot since I took AP Comp Sci, so I came into the course knowing all but the last 2 lessons. It was pretty easy for me. Haynes is so funny and will crack jokes all the time in class, and also is a great coder. He has a lot of experience and he really knows what he's talking about. The tests are all coding, so CODE TO LEARN.

I was seriously intimidated by Professor Haynes at the beginning of the year. I'm not the best at coding, so this class gave me an anxiety attack every time I showed up. However, he was really interested in my project, and he understood when I couldn't get my program to be completely functional. He's a really great guy if you get to know him.

This class ins't the easiest in the world, but it also isn't extremely difficult. That being said, you'll need to read textbook if you want to do well. It is possible to get by without the textbook since he uploads all the notes after each class. You'll have to practice what to learn if you want to do well on the quizzes.

Comment:

One of the best IST faculty I've had at penn state, especially for IST. He really knows what he is doing and will do whatever he can to help you out. In terms of grading - it depends who is doing it, but he does have the LATAs do a lot of it. Only complaint about the class is the final was extremely difficult for the amount of time given.
