Dr. Murphree is the definition of southern soul. Super charming and such a dad. We do a lot of reading, reading that is somewhat excessive in my opinion, but the class time is mainly class discussion over the reading, and theres reading quizzes almost every class. You get out as much as you put in. He gives you good, extra resources on Blackboard

Dr. Murphree is deceptively nice. He couldn't care less about how hard you are working in the class, and his tests are EXTREMELY unfair. He will test over things that he has never mentioned (in class, study guide, or powerpoint). It is a freshman level biology class, but he made it one of the hardest classes for absolutely no reason.

You'll need to read a lot in order to stay up to date. His lectures are pretty dry, but try to pay attention/answer questions. He's a really nice guy and wants to help, so go to office hours if you are worried. Those exams are HARD so prepare at least a week ahead of time. Lab practical is hard.

You will need to read to pass this class. Lab final is unfair and tests over way too many things. Tests had questions there were no way to prepare for.

Wasn't the best. Isn't clear when grading. Is no help and not accessible out of class. If you do not want to destroy your GPA stay away!

Nicest professor at Belmont, but is just terrible when grading. Is not specific and his quizzes are too detailed for someone to answer. Would not take again.

Built study sheets off of the slides. The first test will require two hours of study for an A, and the second will require 20, steep learning curve. The third and fourth are a little tougher than test two, but more interesting. The labs seem pointless, but they're relevant for the practical, so save the lab paperwork each time. OFFICE HOURS HERO!

Dr. Murphree was a great professor, as long as you aren't afraid of bugs. It's a Bio class so you'll have to work, but as long as you can keep up you'll be fine (unless it's a linked class it should be an easy A). He really cares about students and will spend an entire class period answering questions if necessary.

One of the worst professors I've had at Belmont. Knows what he's talking about, but has clear favorites and simply doesn't like some people. Doesn't give clear feedback, and exam/presentation marking is not only confusing but incorrect. Stay away.

the temptation to not pay attention because of everything he passes around is strong. Study guides are helpful on tests but what you expect isn't on there as much as other things that seem random. He doesn't curve and there aren't too many assignments - you have to do well on tests and the 5 question quizzes. Attendance is counted for extra credit

Dr. Murphree is one of the best professors I've had at Belmont so far! This class was so hard, and I'm pretty sure I was one of the only ones who made it out with an A but it's definitely possible if you work for it! You HAVE to read the book, do the study guides, and go to open lab for the lab practical. Really tough but worth the effort!!

Dr. Murphree is the nicest professor in the biology department. However, his tests and quizzes are no joke. They're hard but if you study a lot its possible to make a good grade in this class. Seriously, some of his questions appear out of thin air- but you can't be mad at him for it because he's so gosh darn sweet

Wonderful professor. Gives study guides for his tests which are really helpful. The field labs for the Bio 1120 were really fun also.

Dr. Murphree is such a sweet man!! His class is interesting but pretty difficult. His tests are very hard but he gives you a review and is always available to answers questions. Labs are interesting but very long so be prepared to stay the whole time. On projects he grades pretty easily. Overall great class! I would take him again.

He is a very sweet and adorable man who loves biology. However his tests are very, very difficult. His multiple choice questions are very detailed and tricky. There isn't a lot of opportunities to make grades in this class so you have to score well on your tests. He is also a tough grader on essays. Class average on test was a 70%.

He is a very nice, approachable, & helpful teacher. His tests are difficult, but take notes in class & study the study-guides for tests and you will be fine. Contribute as much as you can to the lab-group project, since you work on it the entire semester & present it at the end of the semester with your group, its only 20 minutes for a group of 4.

tests are HARD; over 7-8 chapters at a time. but if you read and pay attention in class, you'll be fine. i don't like that he doesn't collect & grade labs; makes it hard to study for the practical. some groupwork as well. nice guy, but really boring.

Had this class jointly with Dr. Panvini. Murphree is cool, sometimes funny. Lectures a bit boring, but what can one do. Very helpful in lab and on the field. Knowledgeable. As a person, he seems to be very likable.
