Comment:

Very EXCLUSIVE professor; will make you feel inadequate and worthless. Initially comes across nice, with great intentions. Until she plays mind games and manipulates you. Just take the PRAXIS exam if you're interested in the ESOL minor. It's worth it to avoid Dr. Sildus.

Comment:

Decent class but it is a ton of work. I wouldnt recommend it to my friends and I wont be taking another class from her. She demands things be done her way and doesnt have any consideration for college students. I.E. I borrowed a bell rather than buying one and she said it showed that I wasnt committed and counted off on my project.

Dr. Sildus can be a little confusing at times in her criteria, but the more classes you take with her, the better you will understand her expectations. Her assignments and deadlines are very fair for a graduate student, and she is very willing to help you succeed through outside support and second chances.

I wish she better understood what it is like to be a student in an online class with a teacher who is vague, critical, and less than helpful in her criticisms. PSU really does have professors who cannot qualify to work in a real college.

Loved her and loved the class. She grades really easy, if you hand in the assignment you get full points. She embraces discussion and critical thinking...things you need to be able to do if you are interested in being a teacher!

Dr. Sildus is one of the best teachers I have ever had! She was recently nominated for the Excellence in Teaching Award, and they couldn't have chosen a more deserving person. Her teaching techniques have not only influenced how I will teach my future ESOL students, but all of of my future students.

She is an amazing teacher and really knows what she is doing. I love her teaching style. I have two of her classes this semester and next semester I have her for methods. She is GREAT! Please everyone take assessment, whether you are getting your ESOL endorsement or not!

After I graduated, Dr. Sildus' classes were the ones that helped me most. Her classes had the most pertainable information (even for a general classroom job) and my retention of course material was high because of the way she taught. Her syllabus and rubrics were clear and understandable. There was a rubric for every assignment. Excellent teacher!

I'm afraid of her and what she is capable of psychologically. I use to think she was nice and she IS very knowledgeable about the classes she teaches. I learned quite a lot from her. However, her actions outside the classroom worries me. I'm sure someone thought Gacy was a nice guy who cared too.

I don't understand what problems people have with Dr. Sildus. I don't think she plays faves. As far as I am concerned she embraces everyone for their differences.Sometimes assignments are unclear, but ask questions. If you don't want to ask her, ask the GA. She is very helpful and an excellent teacher.

I loved Dr. Sildus. How hard is it to do what is asked? Everything that she expected from us was in the syllabus. I think that her method of teaching has helped me retain what she taught me. As far as favorites I did not witness this. So she is proud of her Russian home. You're taking ESOL classes and you have a problem with this????

My experience with her was a good one. The ones she seemed to favor were students she was already familiar with, so she felt more comfortable with them. I do agree with the comments about unclear directions, but she seemed to want to help us understand it all. She answered all our questions.

I would not recomend her as an advisor. She did not tell me several key things. One class I was dropped from because I did not take a test. She was not helpful with meeting my goals. She always had to go ask someone else for answers to my questions.

I think Dr. Sildus is a good teacher. I have never had a problem with her at all. Some people create their own problems. If you are concerned about your grade, she will help you. I think it is cool to have a teacher from another culture! I can see her being a good resource in the future.

I have had 5 classes with sildus, one thing I have noticed is that she does treat grad students like they are grad students. But the problem is that she treats undergrad students the same way. She just like other teachers need to be aware of the knowledge base she is working with in her students.

Comment:

Dr. Sildus is a fun and energetic teacher who does care about her students. I think the only people who have problems with her just don't "get" her. People from other cultures just communicate differently and I feel that her sense of humor is simply misunderstood.
